Loose lips sink ships, but when you’re the boss, you can let whatever you want fly.
Ron Capps has expressed on multiple occasions he plans to field a second car, a Top Fueler, in 2026, but today on Joe Castello’s WFO podcast, the multi-time Funny Car champion who embarked on team ownership two years ago spilled the beans on who he’s picked to drive.
Capps declared Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Maddi Gordon will be the driver of his Top Fuel car in 2026.
“We’ve already got partners interested in funding that car,” Capps added.
Capps said any sponsorship announcements will likely come after the NHRA U.S. Nationals because, as he puts it, “I don’t want to interrupt her championship run in that car.”
Capps said Gordon’s licensing will likely be in collaboration with JCM Motorsports and Joe Maynard, a team he’s held longstanding ties behind the scenes with over the years.
“We helped him when he came into the sport, and he’s helped me a lot behind the scenes,” Capps said. “He’s got an all-woman team now with his two drivers coming over, and we still share hospitality together. It’s going to be a long year, but it’s going to be a fun year.”
Capps has selected a very good driver. Gordon’s Top Alcohol Funny Car victory at the NHRA Northwest Nationals made her the 100th female racer to win an NHRA national event. It was also her first national event victory.
