MONTE DUTTON: LOST IN THE FRUSTRATION

Can you sense a bit of panic in the air?

Gosh. Life is so distracting. A man (or, I hasten to add, a woman) can’t pay attention to any one thing, so, naturally he (she) doesn’t pay attention to anything.

Take NASCAR. Please.

If it’s a great race, the TV ratings plunge. If it’s a lousy race, they plunge. If it’s modestly interesting, guess what happens? An argument can be made that it doesn’t matter. NASCAR fell into Johnny Cash’s burning ring of fire.

After initially qualifying second for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Martin Truex Jr. was later informed that he won the pole due to Kyle Larson’s car failing post-qualifying inspection.

It was the first pole of the season for Truex, who had qualified second five times. It was also his 13th career pole.

BLANEY JOINS WALL OF WINNERS AT WOOD BROTHERS MUSEUM

Ryan Blaney was recently added to the Wall of Winners at the Wood Brothers Museum in Stuart, Va. When that happened, he tweeted that he's wanted to be on that wall since he first saw it in 2015. This video takes us back to that moment in 2015.

CP MOTORSPORTS - RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY ANNOUNCES NEW BRAND IDENTITY AS RICHMOND RACEWAY

Richmond International Raceway officially rebrands as Richmond Raceway (Richmond) reflecting a bold brand identity to forge a greater connection to the local roots of racing in RVA and the Commonwealth of Virginia. The new brand logo unites the past and present to showcase the vibrant future of the sport at Richmond Raceway.

The new Richmond Raceway brand identity has a simplified color palette of red and black. Pantone® Black represents the track’s iconic Richmond night racing experience. Red (Pantone® 185C) signifies the red stripes that are part of the past and present of the track walls and logo. The double RR’s in the logo are inspired by the organization’s Richmond International Raceway logo introduced in 1988 designed by Sam Bass, who is NASCAR’s first officially licensed artist. Bass is a Hopewell, V.A. native and Virginia Commonwealth University graduate.

MONTE DUTTON: WHAT WE HALFWAY KNOW

Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s surprise victory in the Coke Zero 400 – an even bigger surprise is that it was his second win of the season – occurred in the 17th race of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. It seems natural that the halfway point of the season would be in Daytona Beach, Fla., but it isn’t.

It’s at Kentucky Speedway, nestled near both the Ohio River and Ohio, between Louisville of Kentucky and Cincinnati of Ohio. Give it a month, and it’ll be a trick trivia question.

MONTE DUTTON: FROM A FOX TO A PEACOCK

After the end of the NASCAR Monster Cup road race in Sonoma, Calif., Fox reporter Matt Yocum asked Dale Earnhardt Jr. a general question about his entire career. It took Earnhardt by surprise. He had undoubtedly been expecting a question related to his sixth-place finish in the Toyota/Save Mart 350.

Junior was almost speechless for a few moments, but then he came up with something of an extemporaneous retrospective. The highlight was when Earnhardt said, “Long after your career is over, some of your accomplishments are forgotten, but who you are never gets forgotten.”
