HART, BURKART SCORE WINS AT ATCO EASTERN REGIONAL

 
In the final results from Atco Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Josh Hart, Ocala, Fla., and Phil Burkart, Yorkville, N.Y., took home the wins in Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car respectively.
 
Hart, worked his way through the field and ran 5.224 seconds at 273.94 mph in his final round victory over Jackie Fricke, Flemington, N.J., who clocked in at 9.535 seconds, 84.90 mph.
 
Burkart faced off against Dan Pomponio, Berlin, N.J., and posted a winning run of 5.563 seconds, 264.91 mph in his ’15 Camaro. Pomponio left the starting line early with a foul start and did not complete the run.

NERO HAS WORKED TO BECOME A ‘VERY COMPETITIVE’ ADVERSARY

 

Paul Nero has been racing in NHRA's Top Dragster class since 2010 and in other classes and events before then, but only recently did he decide to compete for a national championship, and he's doing better than most other racers would in such a short time chasing a title.

"I had been concentrating mostly on divisional events, but last year we decided to seriously focus on national events as well," he said. "I figured I had the equipment and the car and the resources to do it. Plus, I know my car is not the fastest, and at some point the class is going to get out of range and go faster, so it was now or never. So far it has worked out pretty good both years."

FIRST TIME CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT SONOMA RACEWAY

 

John Richardson and Ken Ratzloff celebrated with their teams in the winner’s circle receiving their first National event win during the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals.

Richardson, Santa Clarita, Calif., worked his way through the field in Top Dragster and ran 28.098 seconds192.66 mph in his final round victory over Andy Spiegel, Acton. Calif.

Ratzloff, Idaho Falls, Idaho, faced off against Ted Kellner San Jose, Calif., in Top Sportsman with an impressive reaction time of .004 seconds, posting a winning run of 7.230 seconds, 191.35 mph in his ’53 Studebaker. Kellner drove to a 7.314 seconds, 187.29 mph pass for his runner up finish.

NMCA/NMRA SUPER BOWL OF STREET LEGAL DRAG RACING NOTEBOOK

NMCA and NMRA invaded Route 66 Raceway for the 13 edition of its combined event, The Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing. From Pro Mod to True Street, hundreds of cars have entered the gates of the world class race plant in Joliet, Illinois.

GALBRAITH, WAGNER, AND LOBNER WIN IN FIRST HALF OF HEARTLAND DOUBLE

 

The NHRA West Central division concluded the first half of it's double header Friday evening at Heartland Motorsports Park, Topeka, Kan. Troy Galbraith, Wyatt Wagner, and J.R. Lobner paraded down the return into the winner's circle with their teams.

Galbraith, Indianapolis, got off the line first and held off Chad Voges, St. Peters, Mo., by a few feet at the finish line for the Comp Eliminator divisional Wally trophy. Galbraith recorded a victory pass of 6.752 seconds, 183.67 mph. Voges followed up at 7.601 seconds, 169.98 mph.

KENNY IN CONTENTION FOR SECOND NHRA TITLE

 
When Alan Kenny won the 2012 NHRA Super Comp national championship, it instantly went to No. 1 on the list of accomplishments during his long racing career.

"It's like a fairy tale season," said Kenny in an interview after winning the 2012 title. "If you're a drag racer, the NHRA world championship is your World Series, your Super Bowl, whatever you want to call it. Every year, you lay in bed at night when you can't sleep thinking, 'You know, if I could just win a couple early, maybe I'd have a shot.' "

PERCIVAL AND HUTCHENS VICTORIOUS IN MILE HIGH NATIONALS SPORTSMAN

 

David Hutchens and Brian Percival of Lakewood, Colo., celebrated with their teams in winner's circle during the closing of the Dodge Mile High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway.

Hutchens worked his way through the field to meet Percival in the Super Comp final round. Both runners triggered great lights at the line, but Hutchens' was better; .002 seconds earning him his first national event Wally trophy at his very first national event. Hutchens ran 9.453 seconds, 174.48 mph; Percival followed up at 9.413 seconds, 160.16 mph.

LAMB HEADLINES NHRA DIV. 7 LODRS WINNERS FROM SONOMA

 

In the final results from Sonoma Raceway and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series, Doug Lambeck, Irvine, Calif., and Justin Lamb, Henderson, Nev., took home the wins in Comp Eliminator and Super Stock respectively.
 
Lambeck, worked his way through the field and ran 8.351 seconds at 185.74 mph in his final round victory over Tony Mandella, Eastvale, Calif., who clocked in at 7.912 seconds, 163.31 mph.
