CECIL COUNTY DOORSLAMMER DRAGS VIDEO REVIEW

As racers continue to put their cars together and finish upgrades, turnouts in all classes continue to increase. Many cars set personal bests and new track records were set as the rain held off.

In Outlaw Big Tire, Ken Doak debuted his supercharged 1969 Camaro this year sporting a new Hemi powerplant. Gary Naughton who is still shaking the bugs out of Ken Doak's gold colored 67 supercharged Camaro were both very impressive. Doak set the Big Tire track record with a 6.99, 207 and Naughton went a 7.28, 197. "Smokin" Joe Schroeder also brought out his new supercharged Camaro with a 526 Allen Johnson Hemi. Schroeder's day was short-lived as he would kick out the driveshaft during the second round of qualifying. John Schroeder came out strong the first round of qualifying but missed the remainder of the day as a result of unknown issues. Charlie Micallef took the number one qualifier money, but had a nitrous problem first round, which cost him the win. James Houston was back again this month posting consisten 7.80's but his day was short-lived when he faced off against Doak who set the track record in the first round. In the end, Doak would face off against his other car (Naughton) and Doak coasted for the win. Congrats to Ken Doak and his team for setting a new track record, and for having such a successful start to the season as they were troubled with various issues that plagued them throughout last season. In Outlaw 10.5, Richard Sexton would take home the win against Joe Newsham who would break his transmission on the run. Sexton ran strong all weekend posting three 4.45's and Newsham also posted his personal best with a 4.45. Mike Bradford just put his beautiful 67 Mustang back together last night and came out strong running a string of 4.70s. Mo Hall also came out strong and ran consistent 4.60s as he improved dramatically from last month. Many cars struggled as Dave Tolley couldn't avoid tire shake, Dave O'Donnell's transmission issues continued to haunt the 1970 nitrous assisted Chevelle, and others including Tim Essick who never even made a pass. Jerry Morgano's car ran strong but he struggled to keep the front end on the ground. Ray "Hollywood" Johnson also came out to play and initially struggled with traction issues, but seems to be making progress with his tune up. Keith Sexton had a strong first qualifying effort, but he spent the remainder of the day fighting electrical gremlins. Lastly, our points leader coming into the race, Charlie Dolbin, had numerous problems including electrical and traction issues. Either way it was a great day of racing and it was nice to see a full car field for the first time this season here at Cecil County.

In Drag Radial, it was an exciting day as many personal bests were set and countless amounts of headers and oil pans now have a wonderful dent in them compliments of the Cecil County track prep. Chris Evans went a 5.13 before having issues, which put him on the trailer for the day. Paul Major smoked a transmission, which resulted in an early day for the wild twin turbo Corvette. Brett Hull continues to struggle figuring out his setup and he couldn't keep the car off the bumper. Steve Drummond and Rich Bach kept the hope for the nitrous small blocks alive. Bach was consistent all day in the 5.30's range and Drummond slowly crept up on his tune up as he posted a 5.17 in his wife's beautiful 1967 Mustang. The class also featured some new faces including Ev Bernardo who went a few rounds in his nitrous assisted Mustang entry. Jesse Lambert came out and made a strong showing going to the semis. Chris Little continued his positive efforts in the case for the drag radial title as he posted a 5.06, 148, before losing in the semis. In the end, it was Richie Stine and Alex Vrettos facing off in the finals. Stine was last months winner and posted a string of 4.90's including a 4.91, and Vrettos who has been coming on strong showing positive testing results in preparation for this race also posted a 4.96. In the finals, Vrettos tree'd Stine and never looked back as Stine didn't have enough to catch Vrettos who took the win light. .009 5.03 to a faster but losing .136 4.94. Congratulations to Vrettos and Team Corupt Motorsports. Drag Radial continues to be an exciting addition to the Cecil County/Finishline Performance Street Car Shootout as it continues to show great promise with the turnout and performance of the entries.

Finally, in the 8.50 index it was a strong showing of cars coming up just shy of 16 entries. Bill Cannon, Mark Bowen, Tj Kasper were all strong competitors, but it was Kasper who came away for the win. Congrats to Team Kasper and car owners Gill and Dot Christy on their victory.
