The Outlaw Fuel Altered Association kicked off its special 20th Anniversary season at North Star Dragway in Denton, Texas, with a wild ride from Bobby Marriott's "Shockwave."

Marriott's engine let go during the final qualifying session and erupted into flames with oil spewing under the rear slicks. His car made an abrupt move to the centerline and into Doyle Smith's lane. Smith's car was impacted from the rear by Smith's entry.

Marriott was knocked unconscious as his car three -wheeled through the shutdown area, grazing the guardrail and coming to a stop in a grassy area at the top end.

Smith emerged from his car uninjured while Marriott regained consciousness as medical personnel extracted him from the car. He was transported to the local hospital for further evaluation.
