FEEDBACK FRIDAY – EVENT ANNOUNCED, NOW THE REAL WORK BEGINS FOR NHRA'S 4-WIDE NATIONALS

FEEDBACK ARTICLE:  EVENT ANNOUNCED, NOW THE REAL WORK BEGINS FOR NHRA'S 4-WIDE NATIONALS

01_22_2010_4wideFonzie has officially jumped the shark at NHRA. While I think running exhibitions or even qualifying would be acceptable. Racing eliminations under this format  is crazy. - Mike Greene

I am disgusted, I thought it bad enought that the NHRA was trying to copycat NASCAR. But now they are aspiring to better Barnum & Bailey. Leave 4 wide for Stock and Super Stock. - Joe Damico

As far as 4-wide racing is concerned, the only benefit will be to the TV people (shortening the length of the telecast on Sundays).  To the people actually attending an event, it means only 3 rounds of eliminations to watch instead of 4, and less bang for the buck (if not more noise).  I am against 4-wide, and against the whole idea of a "countdown" at the end of the season.  -  Andy Nelson

I'm a driver/fan... Bring it on!  Unless your scared? - Jack W. Smith

I think the NHRA is creating a "circus like" atmosphere with this, and making drag racing look cheap, after all the years it took to gain credibility for the sport. I can't wait for the first four nitro car oil down, or the first Pro Stock burn down. After being passionate about drag racing since 1960, I have to admit that I'm losing interest in the NHRA Pro side of it. What's next, shooting clowns out of cannons during downtime? I'll start spending my drag racing dollars locally until someone in Glendora wakes up. - Gary Gretka

Too many cars to try to watch at one time. Lions, tigers, elephants comming soon. Clowns already in place! - B. Talbert

BIG mistake!  How will crewchiefs be expected to make the right set up calls when they have to read four different lanes at once?  What if three out of 4
lanes are "bad."  Or two lanes are bad?  How does television capture 4 lanes at once?  How do expect a 75 minute turnaround when there will be so many track variables to contend with?  Drag racing was always intended to be one racer against one other racer.  One on one.  Not one against three.  Come on boys, this isn't drag racing.  This is just an exhibition and should be treated as such.  No points awarded.  I bet most racers hate this idea, but won't say a word since they know who pays their checks.  Ask the Snake what he thinks of it.  I bet he won't go along with it.  This idea will also cheat the fans out of a round of racing.  Do they get a discount on their admission price.  Bet not. - Dave Keller

I am very excited about this! I hated missing the 4-lane TF and TF/FC passes last year, now with the 2010 March event being an all 4-wide race, I will be
there no matter what. - I even have a pregnant wife due about that time. - Jeff Richardson

I predict this is going to last for one race only. How are you going to have spectators trying to watch 4 cars at once and retain what they think they saw or
who smoked the tires where the stageing is never going to work as everybody is different. Oh by the way where are you going to get the cars to fill the fields. Save the other 2 lanes for oil downs.- Fred Frey

I think it sucks!!!!!

The fans are going to get a shorter raceday experience. - Ray Niski

Couple of issues.

How is Rick Stewart going to stage the cars?

Lane choice? - Les Park

It figures that the PRO Board wasn't consulted prior to this happening. That's REALLY surprising! (insert sarcasm) This 4 Wide stuff is something to try and pull in new fans. It should be kept at an exhibition level, like they did last season. I think it's too "gimmicky" for the old school fans, and there are many
safety and track prep issues to address. That, and it's going to be confusing on top of everything else.

I might watch, out of curiosity...but being a long time fan, I already know I won't like it much. - Allen Tucker

I think the idea is VERY good. It is an innovative approach to the sport and it is going to be a big hit with the lucky fans in attendance and the millions
watching on TV. NHRA should put together a strong marketing effort so that every car enthusiast is aware of what is going to happen at Z-Max in March. Again, VERY good idea! - Roberto E. Hidalgo

Drop back, punt, try to get the ball back, like dropping the Chase! - Jack W. Smith

What is this? barnum and bailey? This stinks and I will NOT watch it!

Somebody needs to see a shrink. - Jack Harris
