Thank You for the story about Gene Fulton's white wagon. That has to be one of the best stories ever about a sportsman racer. You don't see anything like that today. I love to see articles about hard working people that accomplish so much from such a humble starting point. - Rob Turkal

Never knew the story about Gene's car. So this might be interesting.  I have been racing 35 years in the central Ohio area. There was a local car, a gold 1967 RS/SS Camaro it was known around here as a fast street car from 1967 on. The original 396 was replaced by a 427 two weeks after it was bought. It was one of the fist cars around to be
tubbed, had a Lamb trans brake (I still have it). I bought it in 1984 after always wanting it. My real dream car. It went from 9.90s to 8.00s in street trim and won many races. One of the best was in Norwalk in 2002.

Here is the interesting part. I had a shock go bad and I crashed the car at 170 mph, rolled it several times came to rest on its top. I completely totaled the car. Looked about like Gene's. Walked away from it but lost the car of my dreams ... well still sitting on jack stands ... just can't bury it.

Now for the rest of the story. At the time of the crash I had a 1969 Camaro in the works. All steel factory windows a little tricker street car. Shaping into a 10.5W outlaw car.

One guess as to who does my motors ... that's right Mr. Fulton I have one of his old 706 cid engines. Car runs 7.00 at 199 mph and we are still winning a lot of races in central Ohio. Just thought you might like the story.   Gene told me an old guy was in his office (just where I was sitting) and told him it cost him just the same to race today as it did in 1970 -- EVERYTHING HE HAD. – “Fast” Eddie Parker
