FORCE HOOD NEXT FOR BOSS 500

John Force Racing tuner John Medlen has said that eventually all of John Force Racing’s Mustangs would run the Boss 500, the special Ford nitro engine, developed by JFR, Ford and Medlen.

The time is drawing near for Force Hood’s team to make the transition, although there’s no set date.

Force Hood’s crew chief Dean “Guido” Antonelli believes the engine combination will make an already successful team, even better. The team is tied for fourth in the point standings after seven events.

New Ford Nitro Engine Soon to be Between Frame Rails …

John Force Racing tuner John Medlen has said that eventually all of John Force Racing’s Mustangs would run the Boss 500, the special Ford nitro engine, developed by JFR, Ford and Medlen.

The time is drawing near for Force Hood’s team to make the transition, although there’s no set date.

Force Hood’s crew chief Dean “Guido” Antonelli believes the engine combination will make an already successful team, even better. The team is tied for fourth in the point standings after seven events.

“There are components that I would be scared to death to change, like the engine block, but putting the Boss 500 in it, if anything, is going to enhance our chance of winning,” Antonelli believes. “We believe it’s a little more durable piece. NHRA has our hands tied on the design of the block, you know the cam shaft, the crank location and lifter location, we can’t change any of that, so what Medlen concentrated on was making a block that was more durable, more rigid and didn’t move around as much.”

Guido has already been schooled by Medlen, who introduced the engine into competition with driver Mike Neff.

“Medlen said, ‘Man, this thing revs up easier,’ and, of course, with the nitro car you can convince yourself of a million different things that work, but really its just the air was a little better or whatever,” Antonelli explained. “Then [Austin] Coil was the next when he put it in John’s car, and he said, ‘This thing revs up a little bit easier,’ and, of course, the same thing happened with Robert Hight, so we’re excited to get it in, but we got to make sure that each car is fully outfitted because you don’t want to go back and forth with it.

“If it does rev up a little bit easier you don’t want to have to put in a different block in and lose horsepower,” Antonelli continued. “So we’re excited to get it. We’re not afraid to get it. We look forward to getting it in there.”
