PATRICK NOT ABANDONING XPS

Robert Patrick intends to run a twelve-race NHRA tour in 2009 but he’s not the least bit interested in abandoning his ADRL Extreme patrick.jpgPro Stock participation. The current championship format of the ADRL allows Patrick to run both and contend for a championship on the popular eighth-mile series.

“It’s an ambitious schedule, I’ll assure you of that,” said Patrick. “I’m not selling anything. I’m keeping everything intact on our program. The announcement might have been focused on the upcoming 500-inch program but there’s no way I will walk away from the big engines. It’s been a part of my life since the first day I became a professional drag racer.”

The announcement might have been focused on the upcoming 500-inch program but there’s no way I will walk away from the big engines. It’s been a part of my life since the first day I became a professional drag racer.”

Patrick was instrumental in bringing Extreme Pro Stock to the doorslammer-oriented National Guard ADRL series and has been one of the staunchest supporters of the program since the idea of bringing the factory hot rods into the fold.

“From the first day I spoke with Kenny Nowling about the idea of bringing Extreme Pro Stock into the ADRL, I walked away from the conversation knowing that we were on the edge of creating something great,” Patrick said. “A year later, and the tight racing that I’ve been privileged to be a part of, I can tell you that it was absolutely the right decision to make.”

Beyond his participation as driver, Patrick intends to continue sponsorship of the class’ No. 1 qualifying bonus, a $1,000 reward through the Patrick family’s Purvis Ford, Lincoln, Mercury dealership.

“When you have a sanctioning body president like Kenny Nowling, who isn’t afraid to think out of the box, it inspires you to be a part of whatever he does,” Patrick said. “That man welcomed us in before we were officially a part of the program, paid out of his pocket to support us when others told us we could sell our cars on eBay.

“If you want to know why I support the ADRL, it’s because of two simple reasons. The ADRL and Kenny Nowling know how to treat the racer and my fellow competitors in ADRL Extreme Pro Stock conduct themselves first class in every way imaginable.”
