Once again Keith Baker's 1963 Corvette suffered what appeared to be a pinched ring and as he did last month in Montgomery, Ala., Baker2.jpghe still took the the victory. Despite the engine bellowing smoke out of the right bank Baker defeated Jamie Hancock in the final round of the Dixie Pro Mod Association race at Phenix Dragstrip.

Hancock had actually lost in the semi-finals to Johnny Pilcher but under association rules was reinstated when Pilcher could not make the call for the finals, after suffering major engine damage and a small fire following his 4.13 blast as Hancock suffered handling problems. Baker ran low elapsed time of the day with a 4.10 in his semi-final match-up with Boo Baxley.  Baxley had run a career best 4.14 in the first round to defeat Mark Sisk and Baker defeated Boo's wife, Lynne Milner-Baxley, with a 4.12.  Pilcher beat Phil Wallace and Hancock took out Jason "Spike" Thomas in their first round matches.

The two former ADRL World Champions completed their burnouts side by side and had the large crowd on their feet as they staged only to see Hancock trip the red-light and Baker take the win with a slowing 4.24.
