NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Top Fuel Dragster driver Antron Brown was testing a_brownyesterday and today at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in preparation for the Oct. 29-Nov. 1 NHRA Las Vegas Nationals.

Brown has five final-round Top Fuel victories in 2009 and currently is fourth in points (with two races remaining), just 81 behind leader Tony Schumacher.

“It’s been going great,” said Brown, after making his final pass this afternoon. “We came out here and did what we wanted to learn – getting the engine combination right and test some other stuff that we wanted to test. When we come back for the race next week, we’re looking forward to it because we’re already ahead of the game. Hopefully we can get some of those qualifying points, which is really crucial for this championship and the position we’re in.”

Brown’s Las Vegas test car may be unfamiliar to NHRA fans. The brown Remacid wrap was used for a future television commercial, but the familiar Matco Tools colors will be back on the car for the NHRA Las Vegas Nationals.

“We’ll be back with our full, true-blue Matco Tools car. This also was a video shoot for Remacid, which is coming on board for next year as a strong associate sponsor. It’s an all-natural, organic product for acid reflux and indigestion relief. They want to prove to the world that it works as fast as our Top Fuel Dragster, which it does. It’s great to have them aboard and we’re giving them a little pump while we’re out here testing.”

Brown, a 23-time NHRA winner, made NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series history by becoming just the seventh professional driver to sweep the grueling Western Swing (Denver, Seattle and Sonoma, Calif.).

Although he is locked in a heated points battle with just two races remaining, his was the only Top Fuel Dragster team to test at The Strip at LVMS.

“We’ve done so well all through the year, and the Countdown came and we had test sessions left. A lot of other teams have no more left. We saved them for this time of year and it worked to our advantage. We had a couple of little gremlins bite us in the first two or three races of the Countdown and we’re using these test sessions to work it out. We got back into the battle and we’re out here early to get ready for this race (NHRA Las Vegas Nationals). We still have one test session left in case we have to test before we go to (the series finale) in Pomona.”
