MMPSA CONTINUES TO GROW LINE-UP OF DRIVERS

DSB_9668The MMPSA welcomes Mark Martino and John Montecalvo to the growing list of drivers signed on to run the complete five-race series. Both drivers had very successful seasons on the quarter-mile last year. Martino posted the quickest and fastest times ever by a Canadian Pro Stock racer on the quarter-mile (6.338 secs, 222.77 mph) and Montecalvo won the whole shebang, clinching his first and perhaps the last ever IHRA Pro Stock World Championship. Montecalvo will now proudly wear the 1 in the MMPSA.

Mark Martino will be a busy man this year, often pulling triple duty as he runs the full MMPSA and ADRL series as well as competing in select NHRA Pro Stock events.

“We are really excited to be running with the MMPSA,” told Martino. “We started running Mountain Motor Pro Stock back in 2008 and have loved every minute of it and now with MMPSA I believe this will bring Mountain Motor Pro Stock to a new level. Pete Berner and Tommy Dupree have done an excellent job in giving us a place to race quarter mile. I can’t thank them enough.”

John Montecalvo, who is one of the longest supporters of Mountain Motor racing, is looking forward to the new direction it is taking with the MMPSA.

“After all our hard work and the trials we went through to capture a Championship, I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to wear a 1 on the windshield after our victory,” explained Montecalvo, “but now that we have the MMPSA I’ll be able to defend my Championship, and I’m very thankful for that. I look forward to getting back on the quarter-mile. Sonny [of Sonny’s Racing Engines] found some more power for us over the winter and we’re gearing up for the 2010 season.

“We did have a setback a few weeks ago, though. Tommy, who crews for me, was in a snowmobile accident. He’s ok but he did some major damage to his back. It could have been worse, and we’re very thankful it wasn’t. He’s back on his feet, recuperating, and we’re hoping he’ll rejoin the crew by the first event at Rockingham. He wants to defend this Championship as much as we do.”

In the past months the MMPS has gained commitments from Canadian John Konigshofer, Trevor Eman, Larry Obrien, John Pluchino and Ned Katuran.
