BRISTOL DRAGWAY PREPARES FOR MOPAR THUNDER EVENT

moparFor some car enthusiasts, it is Mopar or no car. For those people, the September 3-5 Mopar Thunder at Bristol Dragway is the perfect opportunity to see their favorite rides in action.

Several racing classes will give drivers the chance to race their Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler or other Mopar-badged vehicles on one of drag racing’s premier tracks. Racing action includes Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Slant 6.

A number of General Lees, possibly the most famous Mopar, will be on hand for fans to see. Additionally, fans will be able to take rides around the “World’s Fastest Half-Mile” in the famous Dodge Charger.

Mopar Thunder will feature the always-popular Mopar vs. The World on Friday evening. The race allows the Mopar muscle to be flexed against all comers, as any car from any manufacturer is eligible to compete.  Mopar fans will want to come cheer their favorites to victory over the competition.

Also, a jet car will heat up the track and make blistering-quick passes through Thunder Valley during the event.

The Keisler Engineering car show will fill the Dragway grounds and gives fans a chance to see their favorites from years gone by. Keisler Engineering, based just outside Knoxville, builds transmissions for classic Mopar rebuilds.

The swap meet, car corral and Manufacturers’ Midway will give spectators and participants the opportunity to purchase the hard-to-find items they have been looking to purchase for their new or classic Mopar.

Gates open at 9 a.m.  Friday with a test and tune session for all makes at noon. Mopar vs. The World takes place at 6 p.m.

Gates open at 9 a.m.  Saturday with time trials for bracket machines at 10 a.m. Car show judging begins at noon, while bracket eliminations take place 3 p.m.

On Sunday, gates open at 8 a.m., with church service scheduled for 9 a.m. Time trials are at 10 a.m. with the first round eliminations at noon.

Friday admission is $10. Admission is $20 on both Saturday and Sunday. A weekend pass good for all three days is available for $35. Children 10 and under are free with a paying adult.
