“Nothing,” said Smith, laughing, when asked if he was learning anything which would apply to his Pro Stock Bike. “Everything is different. We run a different clutch – our chassis is ten inches longer. This is a just-for-fun bike.”

Smith was competing in the ADRL’s Pro Extreme Motorcycle division during the Dragstock VII event in Rockingham, NC, a mere stone’s throw from his King, NC, home.

Smith, who races a Buell on the NHRA tour as part of the Al-Anabi team, was competing with a custom-built 2010 Harley-Davidson complete with saddle bags.

“It’s about as extreme as we could come up with in a short amount of time,” admitted Smith. “We have the saddlebags; it’s a bagger, so the fans ought to like this thing.”

The bike is destined for Qatar to compete in the Arabian Drag Racing League competition in a few months.

“We have three bikes being built to ship over there, and this is one of them,” Smith added.

Smith believes his pedigree as a member of the Smith Racing family inspires him to race as many times as he can.

“Everybody asks me what I do when we aren’t racing NHRA events and I tell them, we just find somewhere else to race,” Smith said. “We just love to race. If we ran both series, that would be about 30 races a year. Plus we run over in Qatar in the off-season.”

Unfortunately for Smith, the Harley failed to make the cut after four attempts with a 4.439 his best pass.
