IRWIN® Tools has joined forces with Doug Herbert Racing and has awarded the top two National SkillsUSA Automotive Service Technicians with the "Ultimate Experience". Working alongside hot rod legends to squeeze out every drop of speed from one of NHRA's most famous "Top Fuel" dragsters on the strip, these two young Automotive Service Technicians are in for the experience of a lifetime.
 
Herbert, who finished fourth in the inaugural zMAX 4-Wide Nationals in March 2010,has been in the NHRA since 1991, and has been in 28 career final rounds. Herbert, a fan and media favorite, has enlisted the help of these two young automotive technicians to showcase the famous blue and yellow colors of IRWIN Tools on his "Top Fuel" dragster during the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) O'Reilly Auto Parts Nationals race weekend, taking place September 16-19, 2010, in Concord, NC.

IRWIN Tools and Doug Herbert Racing have invited the winners of the National SkillsUSA Automotive Service Technology competition to the Ultimate Experience in Charlotte, NC. Kieron Kohlmann from Racine, Wisconsin, and Nathan Allen from St. Clair, MO, are working alongside hot rod mechanics and legends to build and rebuild one of NHRA's most famous "Top Fuel" dragsters all week leading up the big race weekend.  After an intense week of training in the Doug Herbert Race Shop, these young technicians are eager to twirl the iron and rebuild the dragster, heat after heat, until the final race for the trophy.
 
"Our team is really excited to kick off the Ultimate Experience with IRWIN Tools," said Herbert, a 10-time winner in the NHRA. "This is a great opportunity for us to introduce some young folks, just starting out in their career, to the exciting world of drag racing mechanics.  It's a career choice that many Automotive Technicians dream of, but aren't quite sure how to make it happen."
 
The 23-event NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series allows fans to get up-close and personal with the drivers and teams, which is something you don't see in other avenues of motorsports. The fan access to the drivers and pit crews in the NHRA is very unique, especially in comparison to other professional sports.
 
Fans are encouraged to stop by the IRWIN pits at the zMAX dragway in Concord, NC, September 16th - 19th, to see these aspiring technicians knee deep in the trenches, learning from some of the best in the business. Fans can also visit the IRWIN Tools Ultimate Tradesman Challenge and Grip, Rip, and Drive against the clock for daily top time prizes. Using IRWIN VISE-GRIP® 10" GrooveLock pliers, an IRWIN square, the IRWIN QUICK-GRIP® XP600 one-handed bar clamp, the IRWIN Universal Hand Saw, and a 5/8" IRWIN SPEEDBOR® Max Speed wood boring bit, contestants must Grip, Rip, and Drive against the clock. The fastest, most accurate competitors of each day will win an IRWIN Tools prize pack worth $250.
