BECKMAN WILL HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR RFC KIDS IN VEGAS

One of cancer survivor Jack Beckman's goals in life has always been to give back when he can. At this weekend's 10th annual NHRA Las Vegas Nationals, the beckmandriver of the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger Funny Car will try to do just that, as he fights to win his first NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Funny Car championship.

Beckman and the Valvoline/MTS team will accept minimum donations of $100 to the RFC Kids Children's Program on Friday, Oct. 29, Saturday, Oct. 30, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway to receive a ride-along in one of the racing tow vehicles during qualifying, with either Beckman's Funny Car team or with another pro racing team. Several pro NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car team have volunteered to participate. Fans may make donations and sign up for the ride-along in the Don Schumacher Racing NAPA hospitality area in the NHRA pits.

Also, on Friday, and on Saturday, Oct. 30, RFC Kids will hold a silent auction in the same DSR NAPA hospitality area, of which all the proceeds will go to the RFC Kids Children's Program, headed by William and Stacy Zahorsky of Alva, Okla. Items expected to be auctioned include die-casts, autographed drivers' safety equipment, and other items donated by a number of NHRA pro racing drivers.

One of the top auction items is a Matco Tools MSC4 storage cart. The top bidder on this item will get to choose the color he/she wants and Matco will ship it to his/her house.

"RFC Kids go to the majority of the NHRA races and they offer kids the ability to interact with other racers' kids at the events," said Beckman, who is third in the Funny Car point standings, with two events remaining in the 2010 season. "They provide a way for local children, ages 3 to 14, to attend the NHRA drag races and meet up with the children of drivers and participants. They socialize, do crafts, participate in some classroom sessions led by William and Stacy, and connect in a fun way.

"My son Jason (3 years old) really enjoys visiting with his 'peers' and it's definitely a positive experience for him and his mom Jenna and me. We would like to help give RFC Kids the ability to be at more races and interact with more kids and have that same positive influence that they have had on us."

RFC Kids Children's Program was founded by William and Stacy Zahorsky. William has been a chaplain with Racers for Christ for 12 years, and Stacy has been an RFC chaplain for four years. The program provides a safe, fun, family-oriented and positive learning environment for children ages 3-14 and parents/grandparents to enjoy while at the race track.

It is a 501C(3) not-for-profit organization which operates solely on donations.
