IHRA ADDS CANADIAN TRACKS

The International Hot Rod Association is pleased to welcome two new Canadian tracks to the IHRA family with the signing of Thunder Mountain Raceway and Prince George Motorsports Park.

With the addition of the two new tracks the track list north of the border has now grown to half a dozen facilities, further cementing the IHRA’s status as the sanctioning body of choice in the provinces of Canada. Thunder Mountain Raceway and Prince George Motorsports Park will also join the recently signed Ni’Akapxm Eagle Motorplex as the second and third tracks in the province of British Columbia.

“We are glad to welcome Thunder Mountain and Prince George to the IHRA. With the recent addition of these tracks, plus a number of other tracks in the area, we have big plans in store for many of the facilities out west,” said Phil Gingerich, Director of Track Development. “It is an exciting time to be a part of the IHRA as we continue to grow our sportsman programs and reach new areas that haven’t experienced the advantages of racing with the best sportsman organization in the country.”

Prince George Motorsports Park is a quarter-mile facility located in the heart of British Columbia. It is a recently renovated track with a quality racing surface, a lengthy shutdown area and plenty of space located in the scenic town of Prince George.

Prince George Motorsports Park also features a full array of motorsports options with multiple racing venues on the property.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to be part of a large drag racing organization. This partnership will help promote the track and in turn should help bring in more racers and create better drag racing,” said track operator Dan VandenBrink.

Thunder Mountain Raceway, located just outside the town of Kelowna, has also undergone drastic renovations making it one of the premier eighth-mile facilities in western Canada. The track, located 4,100 feet above sea level, boasts incredible food facilities, numerous track, tower and facility improvements and ample parking for both racers and spectators.

Formerly an outlaw track, Thunder Mountain Raceway was built in the 1980s and is operated by the Okanagan Auto Sports Club. While not the biggest facility, Thunder Mountain Raceway boasts a strong contingent of racers that are thrilled about the partnership between the track and the IHRA.

“This partnership couldn’t have come at a better time for us. We are a small track, but we make the most of our opportunities and we look forward to what we can accomplish with an established and well known organization such as the IHRA,” said track spokesperson Bill Boult. “We are hoping to draw new cars and racers that normally might not have raced with us and growing our facility with the help of the IHRA.”
