“I didn’t want to change much when we got to the final round,” said Murillo, who collected a $10,000 first-place check. “It was like a bracket car all weekend. We went 4.36 I do not know how many times. I didn’t want to throw the win away by doing thing stupid by turning the power up. My whole goal was to get him on the tree, but I wasn’t expecting him to run that good. If it wasn’t for his horrendous light we would not have won.”

The race between Murillo and Sikora was a matchup of No. 3 and No. 4 qualifiers.

Murillo admitted his win over Billy Glidden in the quarterfinals was the catalyst to his victory.

“After you go past Glidden, there isn’t anybody who is going to scare you,” Murillo said. “Once we beat Glidden, we had nothing to lose.”

This is Murillo’s third trip to the Street Car Super Nationals and the first time he has walked away as the champ.

“To be honest with you, whenever we come to race like this that is out of the league (National Mustang Racing Association) we run in, we are kind of bringing a knife to a gun fight because of the different rules. We also on the verge of having our transmission break (at this race). It is smoking and it stinks, but it held on.”
