FORCE ROAD SHOW FLIES WITH FANS
John Force used his downtime between winning the NHRA Mopar Mile High Nationalslast weekend and the NHRA FRAM Autolite Nationals in Sonoma today to make a quick trip to the legendary EAA AirVenture Airshow in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The John Force Road Show went immediately to Wisconsin and had all five Ford Mustang Funny Cars on display for the estimated record crowd of over 700,000 for the full week while Force was in attendance on Wednesday for a full day of airplanes, Fords, and fans.
“I didn’t know what to expect but when we got to the show it was just amazing. I have never seen so many airplanes in one place. It was like Woodstock,” said Force. “There were people camping under their planes and then there were big ol motor coaches like you see at our NHRA races. I love my Castrol Funny Car, everybody knows that, but seeing all those airplanes and fighter jets, that gets your blood pumping too.”

During the day on Wednesday Force spent time with fans at the John Force Road Show which was beside the Jack Roush NASCAR display as well as the Cruisin Legends Car Show. Ford is a major supporter of the EAA AirVenture Show and even made a one of a kind Blue Angels Mustang that was auctioned off for charity on Thursday night. Force and Edsel Ford signed autographs for fans in the afternoon outside the massive Ford tent that housed Force’s 25th anniversary Castrol GTX High Mileage Ford Mustang Funny Car, interactive displays and a talking robot.
“I couldn’t get over that robot. I went up and talked with him after the VIP reception. He knew everything about me and NHRA,” said Force, one of the most talkative sports personalities in his own right. “He even knew I won Denver. It was a trip. I loved being with all the Ford fans and all the fans at the air show. It was a brand new crowd for me and to show off NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing was pretty cool. We got a little rain in the morning on Wednesday but it cleared up and everywhere you looked it was packed.”
Force was so excited to see all the planes in flight that the 15-time NHRA Funny Car champion even took to the sky himself. Ford had an area with a variety of rides and activities including a tandem zip line christened the USS Henry Ford. It provided riders with the feeling of being launched off an aircraft carrier. Force went through the brief introduction and then buckled up and launched himself much to the delight of the crowd in the area.
“How many times are you going to be able to say you took off an aircraft carrier on a zip line? I got my body back and I just thought it would be fun to try. We shot of video of my ride for our internet TV show, Nitro Rewind, and ESPN. I told my guys to make sure they got the big jets in the background. Overall it was a great day to spend time with Ford especially Edsel Ford and his son Calvin as well as thousands of fans both old and new.”
At the end of the day Force joined movie star Harrison Ford, Jack Roush and Carol Shelby at the Ford Fly-In movie-theater to introduce the movie Clear and Present Danger to an estimated crowd of nearly 10,000 eager fans. Force and the group of celebs were introduced to the crowd and talked about racing, movies and the air show.
“It was an honor to be with Harrison Ford when he introduced Clear and Present Danger to the movie crowd. I love a good movie and to be included along with Jack Roush and Carol Shelby was incredible. I couldn’t believe how big the crowd was,” concluded Force.
