2008 AMS PM PROGRAM BEING FINALIZED

Plans for the AMS Pro Modified Challenge are in the final phase and include a
repeat of the 2007 schedule and only a few small rule adjustments according to
Series Director Matthew Brammer.
"We're working on the contract with NHRA, and hope to have that finalized shortly," Brammer said. "We're working on some major, very exciting changes for the series but we want to solidify our current program in the interim."
The plans for the series include competing in ten NHRA national events, beginning in Gainesville, Fla. and ending in Las Vegas. Rule changes for the 2008 series include adjusting the minimum weight for all supercharged entries to a consistent 2650 lbs, foregoing the weight penalty for the 63 Corvettes as well as the newer model cars. 2008 remains the final year for cars post-1972.
In addition, supercharged entries will now have the option of using either a two- or three-disk clutch.
"We're working on adding a lot to the whole program, and will wait to make any additional announcements, but, I wanted to get the schedule and rules out there so teams can plan during the off season.
"We've already received so much interest from new drivers wanting to commit to the whole season next year, I think you'll see a continuation of the performance advancements that we witnessed in 07," Brammer said.
Brammer also said the series would remain an "invitational" series.
"It's important for teams to understand that we're limited in the number of spots available, and that just because they have a Pro Mod car or have the desire to race with us, there might not be an available spot. I can't make any promises, and I certainly don't want to have teams making plans to race with us who haven't even contact me or completed a driver registration on our website," he said.
"Once the contract with NHRA is finalized, I'll re-open the registration, and interested parties can complete the initial phase of registering," he added.
