TWO-TIME SPORTSMAN CHAMPION ABRUZZI READY FOR 2008 CHALLENGES

Abruzzi_Camaro.jpgTwo-time IHRA World Champion Marco Abruzzi is poised and ready for his drag race season to begin. As the owner of Abruzzi Racing Transmissions, Marco has focused on the needs of his customers all winter long.

“I have always said that winning any race is an accomplishment. The one thing more gratifying than winning a race myself is watching an Abruzzi Racing Transmission customer win. Living in Ohio, our personal race season starts off a little late,” admitted Abruzzi. “But our season of building race winning transmissions started early this year.”

As the holidays came and went, so did many race transmissions. They were shipped to customers like former World Champion and bracket racer extraordinaire, Edmond Richardson. He came out swinging with an early win during the IHRA Florida triple header.       Abruzzi_Camaro.jpgTwo-time IHRA World Champion Marco Abruzzi is poised and ready for his drag race season to begin. “All in all, we have had six final rounds in NHRA and IHRA competition already this season. When we take the personal team cars to Rockingham for the IHRA Spring Nationals, we would like to add two more wins of our own to that list,” said Abruzzi.

The 2007 IHRA Top Sportsman World championship was won by Jason Lynch. His Cavalier was shifting a Top Sportsman power glide from Abruzzi. He is gunning to defend that title once more with an Abruzzi Racing Transmission.

For the ’08 season, Abruzzi will personally drive his trademark orange ’68 McAmis Top Sportsman Camaro and a brand new carbon fiber Top Dragster entry from Undercover Motorsports. Although he prides himself on the success of his customers, Abruzzi will put up a strong fight to keep Lynch from a door-slammer repeat.

Last season, Abruzzi finished second nationally in IHRA Top Dragster.  He wants to improve upon that finish by one position and add another World Championship trophy to his mantle.

One change to Abruzzi’s race winning combination this spring is the addition of former IHRA Pro Stock Champion Chris Holbrook. Holbrook Racing Engines assembled the new DART products all aluminum 632-inch motor for the dragster. Holbrook has also taken over the machine work and assembly on Abruzzi’s Top Sportsman motors as well.

Other than Abruzzi Racing Transmissions, a list of fine companies assist Marco’s personal race program. Those supporters include Summit Racing Equipment, DART Machinery, Holbrook Racing Engines, Hoosier Tire, Victory Titanium Valves, The Fab Shop, Undercover Motorsports, Tim McAmis Racecars, Zapp Trailer Sales, Staging Light Graphics and Holley Performance Products.

“We are very much looking to get back on the track ourselves. I must admit that it gets tougher each year in both Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. With the arrival of spring though, we will finally give some overdue attention to our two team cars,” said Abruzzi. “I just hope to meet up with a customer or two in a final round before the year is out.”
