The NHRA has fined Don Schumacher Racing $100,000 for possessing more than the allowable tolerance within their pit area. The NHRA cited this infraction was a violation of the fuel regulations as detailed on page 64 of the 2008 NHRA rulebook.

In a statement released by NHRA today, the sanctioning body said, “NHRA has a strict policy on possession of nitromethane at events and takes its responsibility as stewards of this fuel within this sport very seriously. We will not tolerate inappropriate possession of this fuel and will take swift and significant action regarding teams who do not comply with these rules.”

A source close to the situation told Torco’s CompetitionPlus.com this “violation” was nothing more than DSR taking delivery of older fuel used in a past test session [prior to last season's NHRA ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals in October] in order to transport back to their facility. The fuel had been left in the possession of Las Vegas Motor Speedway until DSR reassumed responsibility.

We'll have an official statement from DSR later this evening.
