NEWBY TAKES AUSSIE TOP ALCOHOL VICTORY #3 DURING 2007/08 SEASON

aussie_news_02.jpgAlthough he may be out of contention for this season's Australian Top Alcohol Championship that certainly hasn't stopped reigning champion Wayne Newby from taking round victories.

In what was his third victory of the 2007/08 season, Newby took out the top honours during the recently held Nitro Champs at his home track of Western Sydney International Dragway (WSID).

After qualifying second earlier in the weekend, Newby marched through to the final by downing John Cannuli in national record time during the opening round of eliminations, followed by advancing through to the final when Aaron Hambridge red lighted during their match up in the semi-final, and he then faced Aaron Lynch in the final and took out a comfortable victory with a 5.884 second pass and that therefore sealed his Nitro Champs victory. aussie_news_02.jpgAlthough he may be out of contention for this season's Australian Top Alcohol Championship that certainly hasn't stopped reigning champion Wayne Newby from taking round victories.

In what was his third victory of the 2007/08 season, Newby took out the top honours during the recently held Nitro Champs at his home track of Western Sydney International Dragway (WSID).

During the opening round of eliminations Newby set a new National record of 5.593 seconds, but due to not backing it up within 1% later that weekend which is the requirement in order to officially hold the national record Newby's official mark didn't stand, however, as one would expect Newby was thrilled with how his Nitro Champs campaign panned out. Another plus to come out of the weekend was that Newby was able to set a new MPH record at 255.00.

"I may not be in contention for this season's championship, but this hasn't stopped me from roughing up a few feathers in the process," expressed Newby, who currently sits third in the championship point standings behind leader Brett Stevens and Aaron Lynch.

"This was our third win of the season, and we have had a bit of bad luck in between, and that has put us out of championship contention, but with one round to go we can still move into second place."

Over the course of the Nitro Champs weekend, Newby worked on the clutch settings of his JBS Tools / Fabre Australia supported Dragster and he feels that it is an area that his team constantly needs to further develop.

"It's still a bit shaking at the 100 foot mark and throughout the weekend we worked on the clutch settings in order to make it smoother, but you are never going to get it completely right, but you are always striving to get on top of it," Newby enthused.

"The focus now is for our team to finish the season on a high when we travel up to next month's season finale in Queensland, and with this latest win, I feel confident that we can finish the season with win # 4."

The 2007/08 season will conclude for Newby over the Queensland Birthday Long Weekend (June 7 and 8) at Queensland's Willowbank Raceway for the running of the 2008 Winter Nationals.
