Two-time IHRA Funny Car champion Dale Creasy underwent five hours of surgery on Monday at Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, Alb., for injuries sustained to his legs in a driveline explosion during the IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals.

The accident happened during the semi-finals of the Edmonton-based event.

“His left leg was a little worse than originally thought,” Team publicist Walczak said via email. “The nurse said the surgery went well. We haven’t heard from the doctor directly yet.”

The driveline explosion left Creasy with shrapnel in both legs. He was extracted from the car and transported via helicopter to the hospital on Sunday.

Walczak also confirmed Creasy’s rehabilitation is expected to take months.
