PATRICK RUNNING OUTLAW 10.5 IN ADRL

Pro Stock veteran Robert Patrick has put in more than his share of laps in Pro Stock. The Purvis, Ford-sponsored driver from Fredericksburg, Va., has driven mountain motor IHRA Pro Stockers and even did a lengthy tour of duty in the NHRA 500-inch Pro Stock ranks.

Patrick has won a world championship and has at one time held the title as driver of drag racing’s quickest naturally aspirated doorslammer at 6.266 seconds.

Earlier this week he added yet another chapter to his storied career.

Patrick made a run with a Pro Stocker on 10.5-inch tires during a recent test session prior to the ADRL World Finals in Ennis, Texas. He had originally planned to run the car in the Pro Nitrous decision but pulled out of the Pro Modified-style class in favor of the volatile narrow tire division.

“We just didn’t want to go to a race figuring at best we could qualify maybe 13th or 14th,” Patrick said of his decision to change classes. “I really like the outlaw 10.5 class and the fact it’s full of a lot of great teams made the decision a good one. I wouldn’t have to change the engine to be competitive.”

Patrick’s Shelby Ford made the change in tires but this was in addition to adjustments to the car’s suspension and weight. He went a 4.40-second run in testing and then headed to Texas for the ADRL World Finals.

“That puts us in the ballpark,” Patrick admitted. “We’ll see what happens when qualifying starts.”

Patrick is a 15-time winner on the IHRA Mountain Motor Pro Stock tour and currently ranks third amongst all-time winners on the tour. He captured the 2007 IHRA Pro Stock championship after winning the 2006 IHRA Pro Stock Shootout.

Patrick won the first ever ADRL Extreme Pro Stock event contested earlier this season in Budds Creek, Md.
