Commisso goes low, while point race takes a turn
Canadian
racer Ray Commisso got a little help from sponsor Roger Burgess in the
JEGS Pro Mod Challenge and this unique Las Vegas pairing seems to be
working well.
Burgess wasn't going to run his ProCare Rx Camaro at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend, but agreed to lend his car for the weekend. Commisso returned the favor by claming the provisional pole with a 6.012-second pass at 239.87 mph.

Canadian racer Ray Commisso got a little help from sponsor Roger Burgess in the JEGS Pro Mod Challenge and this unique Las Vegas pairing seems to be working well.
Burgess wasn't going to run his ProCare Rx Camaro at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend, but agreed to lend his car for the weekend. Commisso returned the favor by claming the provisional pole with a 6.012-second pass at 239.87 mph.
For Commisso, the opportunity to jump in Burgess' car was a welcome one.
"The car pulled right down the track and was just awesome today," Commisso said. "After the struggles we've had the second half of the year, being in a car like this restores our confidence. Hopefully we can stay No. 1 and do some damage in eliminations."
Meanwhile, the championship point race took another interesting turn as leader Josh Hernandez qualified a solid third, while his closest rival, Tony Pontieri, couldn't put together a good pass all day in his Quality Plus Compressors Bel Air and is yet to qualify for Sunday's eliminations.
Hernandez had a best pass of 6.053 seconds at 230.93 mph in his Team Rage Camaro, which was just a tick behind Danny Rowe, whose pass in his Hottinger Group Camaro was a Round 1-leading 6.034 seconds at 237.96 mph.
Pontieri has one more opportunity to make the field on Saturday in the final qualifying session, scheduled for 4:30 p.m. If he's unable to land a spot in eliminations, then Hernandez clinches the championship.
Round 1 of eliminations has been moved to Sunday morning.
