ANTRON'S SUPER BOWL PICK: GO WITH THE STEELERS

Despite not being able to root on his hometown Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XLIII, 18-time NHRA winner Antron Brown, antron.jpgdriver of the Mike Ashley Racing Matco Tools dragster, will be intently watching the big game on the evening of February 1. The former college track star predicts the Pittsburgh Steelers to win their sixth Lombardi Trophy on Sunday.

"It's a hard choice in this game," Brown said. "I'm upset at the Cards because they took out my Eagles two weeks back. The Steelers are kind of close to home and they have an awesome defense. I'm picking the Steelers to win by 10 points. I just hope it's a good game. With Kurt Warner and (Larry) Fitzgerald, the Cards can score some points." After relaxing at home in Indianapolis for the Super Bowl, Brown and the Matco Tools team will begin the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series season, Feb. 5-8, at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona with the 49th annual Winternationals. Brown earned the pole at the 2008 NHRA season-opener at 4.495-seconds last February. Last weekend, the 18-time NHRA winner posted the quickest lap of preseason testing with a burst of 3.781 seconds at 316.45 mph.

"Our Super Bowl race isn't until Septemer with the U.S. Nationals, but winning the Winternationals wouldn't be a bad thing at all," Brown said. "We ran awesome at testing in Phoenix with that 3.78 and our Matco team is really jelling here at MAR. I expect us to have a good race at Pomona and a very good season in 2009. I'm just ready to hit the race track and get the season started."
