SALUTE TO FORD AT YORK REUNION

It has been thirty years this year that York US 30 Dragway ceased
operation at the York Airport, Thomasville, PA but the tradition runs
deep for the 8th Annual Musclecar Madness at the York Reunion that
takes place on July 10-11, 2009 at the
York Expo Center, York Fairgrounds.
The founder and publisher of Super Stock and Drag Illustrated magazine and co-owner of York US 30 Dragway, Monk Reynolds, will make his first appearance at the annual reunion.
The York drag strip was one of the most prominent drag racing facilities in the United States and was the host of the largest
one day drag race in the history of the sport, the Super Stock Nationals in 1965. The race to this day is known as the “Woodstock of Drag Racing”. No drag race ever presented can lay claim to the title. GMMG, Inc. of Marietta, Georgia and the “Detroit Rat Pack” has joined the event as a Golden Heritage Sponsor enabling the
popular show to continue in ’09.
The event will present a Salute to Ford which will be attended by some of the greatest legends and legendary race cars to ever carry the blue oval.
In attendance will be Bob Tasca, Sr.,Sam Auxier, Jr., Dick Estevez, Hubert Platt, Earl Wade, Al Joniec, Phil Bonner, Tommy Grove, 422 Motorsports, Bob Glidden’s Pro Stock Fairmont, Rick Auxier Boss 429, Phil Bonner’s Falcon, plus a host of others.
The event will be attended by a star studded field including Gordy Foust, Wally Booth, Judy Lilly, “Miss Hurst Golden Shifter” Linda Vaughn, “Ohio George” Montgomery, Bob Chipper, Wally Bell, Jere Stahl, Jerry Baltes, Jim & Alison Lee, Larry Reyes, Bud Faubel, “The Voice of Drag Racing” Jon Lundberg and a host of other legends to the sport.
The event annually supports the York County SPCA and the goal is to exceed the ’08 total proceeds of $5500. A SPCA special memorabilia auction is held on Saturday.
The show features a giant outside display at the annual Cruisin’ Into Summer cruise in featuring over 600 street musclecars
and street rods.
The show opens on Friday, July 10 at 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. and continues on Saturday, July 11 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
The great nostalgia weekend concludes with the running of the Sixth Annual York Nostalgia Nationals at Beaver Springs Dragway on Sunday, July 12th beginning at 8 a.m.
