ARP QUESTION OF THE WEEK RESULTS - ... SURVEY SAYS, FOUR-WIDE STILL NOT LIKED DESPITE FULL GRANDSTANDS

Last weekend, the NHRA captured the largest three-day total for its spring race in Las Vegas with the inaugural running of the 4-Wide Nationals at a west coast venue.

This did little to impress the readers of CompetitionPlus.com who voted 63-percent to say they have never liked four-wide drag racing. At 21 percent was a group who said they've liked the concept since it was introduced. There were 16-percent who said they've come to enjoy four-wide drag racing.

Our first survey back in 2010 had the disapproval rating at 87-percent.

Facebook reader Dave Calvert offered this assessment.

"Glad that I've had the opportunity to experience it, I didn't like it then and dislike it only slightly less now, and that's only because the racers have gotten more accustomed to the staging procedure," Calvert wrote. "I can't believe that any sponsor is a fan either because airtime is very short when you have to split it four ways. If the car you sponsor doesn't win I doubt that you feel as though you got your money's worth."

James Murray added, "It's a spectacle that has probably drawn in some fans, but it is simply that ... a spectacle. They should make them non-points races and throw a HUGE purse at it to get the racers to participate."

J.R. Ybarra offered support for the four-wide racing.

"Drag Racing should be about the "show" factor which NHRA has lost sight of," Ybarra wrote. "Yes, many look at this as a gimmick, but it's a badly needed element to bring some "Showtime" into a national event."
