ASHLEY HARVEY CONTINUES HER DRAG RACING GRADUATION AT SCSN

Ashley Harvey, 17, and a drag racer wants to go to nursing school when she graduates. She’s your average high school teenager, engaged in social media with a keen eye for selfies and family pictures.

Harvey also has a penchant for taking selfies from the winner’s circle.

A former Jr. Dragster racer, Harvey competed in her first JEGS Performance Street Car Super Nationals. She’s racing a big car for only the fifth time but isn’t intimidated by the experience as evidenced by a career-best pass of 8.34 seconds in a dragster normally reserved for 8.90 racing.

Harvey lets her friends tend to their stick and ball sports world, while she has a ballpark of her own at the drag strip in Fontana, Ca. Her friends dismiss her claims of driving an 800-plus drag racing vehicle.

“Honestly, a lot of them don’t believe me!” Harvey admitted. “Until they come (to a race) and they’re like ‘Oh my God, that’s so cool!’ I have a lot of them watching on BangShift right now.”

Harvey is right around 25 passes in the adult dragster right now, and this was after maybe 10-times that amount while racing in the Junior divisions promoted by the PSCA, SCEDA, and Summit Series.

Harvey has visions of grandeur.

“I want to race a Top Fuel dragster, but (my parents) said after college, so we’ll see,” Harvey said.

Harvey has been around racing long enough to understand accidents are part of drag racing and frequently occur at the SCSN. However, she’s compartmentalized the danger in the back of her mind.

“OK, honestly, I’m really scared that one of them is going to come over on me,” Harvey said. “Other than that, it’s been a lot of fun. It’s a different crowd than some of the home races. It’s cool.”
