DALLAS GLENN HAS MEMORABLE FIRST APPEARANCE IN BRAINERD AS HE GETS PRO STOCK WIN

If Pro Stock standout Dallas Glenn has proved anything in the 2023 NHRA season it is that he’s primed and ready to win his first world championship.

Glenn has been the most dominant driver in the highly competitive class and proved that again Sunday at the Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, Minn.

Glenn clocked a 6.566-second elapsed time at 207.56 mph to defeat Kyle Koretsky, who slowed to 11.229 seconds after shaking the tires in the final round.

“I feel like the car did most of the work (Sunday),” Glenn said. “It was running so good, and I was a little worried because it seems to be of late that the car works really good when it is hot and humid out. As much as I hate it being hot and humid out it showed on Saturday when I picked up four bonus points in qualifying. We went out there on the first run and I didn’t think it was that great of a run and we were second in the session. That put me third pair out in the second round, and I felt like I had a really good car.

“We went out there (Sunday) and made really solid laps. It shook a little bit in the finals. I think the track was so sticky and it was probably a little too good. Maybe we just needed to get after it a little bit more, but it made it through it. I know Kyle really, really, really wanted to win that one, especially here with Lucas Oil (the race sponsor), but that’s the one thing I love about KB Racing there are never ever any team orders. We put up the absolute best tune-up in each car that we can and let the drivers figure it out.”

This was Glenn’s fourth win of the season and the eighth of his career.

Glenn defeated Jerry Tucker, five-time world champion Erica Enders, Aaron Stanfield and Koretsky on his victorious Sunday march, which was his inaugural appearance at Brainerd International Raceway.

“When I won the semis and it was an all-KB final, that’s where the real emotion of winning comes out because no matter what the trophy is coming home with us,” Glenn said.

Glenn, who pilots the RAD Torque Systems Chevrolet Camaro for KB Titan Racing, has been first in the points standings since the third race of the season in Pomona, Calif. This year, Glenn has wins in Pomona, Las Vegas, Chicago, and Brainerd.

“I feel like I definitely have the car to do it,” said Glenn about what it will take to win the 2023 Pro Stock World Championship. “If I could just work a little bit more. I felt like I made some gains with my clutch pedal and then that redlight against Erica (Enders) in Q3 kind of set me back a little bit and took some of my confidence away but as long as someone can settle into the teens or double-ohs with a car that is working as good as mine then it is going to be really, really tough to beat.”

This was the first time Pro Stock competitors competed in Brainerd since 2019, and Glenn was thrilled to be part of the return of the class to BIR.

“BIR has an awesome Pro Stock fan base with the greats who have raced and come from here,” Glenn said. “The last two years when I have been racing Pro Stock, we have not been able to come up here, and I kind of missed that. My wife comes up here and does the PR and I get to sit at home and watch it all on TV. To come here and finally get to race and see all these awesome fans and take a couple laps around the Zoo and take it all in, that place is crazy out there.

“The conditions this weekend were pretty tricky. We started pretty cool and then it got really hot and humid and then it went back to even better cool (conditions). We put down some good laps on Sunday, but to come here and race and win my first time is an awesome feeling. This is really a nice track and a really nice facility, and I hope we get to come here for a long time.”

In 2021, Glenn made a splash in the Pro Stock ranks – winning NHRA’s Rookie of the Year – winning three times and finishing third in the points standings. A year ago, Glenn had one win and finished seventh in the points.

“My first season I got three wins, and then I only got one win my second season,” Glenn said. “I then got three wins pretty quick in the season here and I felt like I kept going to the final and coming up a little short. To get this one (in Brainerd), it breaks that kind of three-win kind of wall. I know I can win more than three in a season, so now I feel the sky is limit. It definitely builds the confidence. When you have a car this good you don’t have to be Double 00 on every hit. I can calm down and relax and just try to make good quality, consistent runs.”

Glenn also acknowledged he does enjoy racing Enders, the reigning world champ.

"She’s an awesome racer and she knows I have a really, really good hot rod, and every now and then I can get my foot off the pedal on time,” Glenn said. “She definitely has stepped up her game every time she has raced me. If you look back in Topeka (last weekend), she was 20s every hit except for the double-oh-nine against me. She knew that she needed it, and I missed it a little bit and she snuck around (me). It is definitely going to come down to pretty much who gets their foot off the clutch first. It is going to be one heck of a battle. Those guys (at Elite Motorsports) are really smart, and they know what they are doing. The last couple of times I have beat her in eliminations, I have got just a little bit lucky.

“I just know going into the Countdown, I’m going to have to do my job and as well as she. We will let the crew chiefs and cars decide it.”

Up next for on the NHRA circuit is the prestigious Dodge Power Brokers NHRA U.S. Nationals on Aug. 30 through Sept. 4 in Indianapolis. It’s a win that just escaped Glenn’s grasp.

“Yeah, I came really close last year. Ran Greg in the final, and I felt like I just kind of rushed my staging procedure just a little bit and I got in just like an extra half inch and went red,” Glenn said. “So, everybody kind of tightens the belts a little more and they try to bring their A-game and bring all their best stuff for Indy. It's kind of like the preview for the Countdown and what's to come. So, everybody really wants to win Indy. It's a big tough one and I'm really glad that I get to be in another Mission #2Fast2Tasty (NHRA Challenge).

"I think there's like three or four of us that are tied with seven points right now. Whoever gets the most points gets to keep the trophy, which I found out at the last one. So, I really want to bring that trophy back home with me. I get one more chance to do it, so it'll be tough and Indy's always tough. It's a long week and you get your one run Friday, two Saturday, two Sunday, and you race Monday. It feels like you're there forever. You've got cars running constantly and it's definitely a grind and it definitely brings out the best of the competitors.”
