HE'S RACING A DUMP TRUCK, LITERALLY!

David Hance drag raced his 2015 Mack Granite dump truck at the 39th Annual U.S. Diesel Truckin' Nationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey, on Saturday, September 19, 2015.

Hance, who is widely respected in the drag racing community for having set multiple records with his Pro Mod and Outlaw 10.5 cars and for being the founder of the legendary Shakedown at E-Town (now known as the Shakedown at the Summit) race, was on site to have some fun and promote his business, New York Dump Trucks, Inc.

New York Dump Trucks, which is based out of Lawrence, New York, and services the greater New York metropolitan area including Long Island, is Hance’s latest entrepreneurial project. When the opportunity came up for Hance to combine his two passions – business and drag racing – he jumped at the chance to make it happen.

Racing his beautiful new 32,000 pound Mack Granite dump truck in the Heavy Truck Class, Hance expertly staged his diesel-powered beast and began his slow but steady trip down the strip. The truck chugged along, its turbo propelling it down the track as it continued to pick up speed. When Hance crossed the beams, the clocks showed that he and his dump truck had run the quarter mile in 22.94 seconds at a speed of 59 mph. It was a far cry from his usual 250+ mph, 5-second runs with his twin turbocharged 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Pro Mod race car, but it was still an exciting experience for him to be racing something so unusual.

In addition to racing his New York Dump Trucks behemoth, Hance had his well-known Pro Mod on display for fans to admire and check out in person. The car proudly sported the New York Dump Trucks logo on its side, along with the Meserole Five Towns Funeral Home logo, another of Hance’s many business endeavors. Several of New York Dump Trucks’ working vehicles were also on site for spectators’ viewing pleasure, including a dump truck and boom truck with functional crane.

“We had a blast and got to hang out with many of our friends in the trucking industry, as well as meet new friends. It was a great event, and we’ll definitely be back next year!” said Hance.
