Titanium has two key elements drag racers seek: it is strong and lightweight. 

These traits have enabled TMS Titanium to make a solid name in the industry. At the Betway NHRA Carolina Nationals, they plan to partner with another solid name, Paul Lee, as their livery will adorn his fuel Funny Car. 

Lee, who admittedly describes drag racing as his fun time when not running one of his several automotive-related businesses, will use the event to showcase a solid business-to-business relationship with TMS Titanium. 

TMS Titanium is a leading supplier and distributor of titanium mill products. In addition to working with Lee’s racing team by providing titanium for race car parts, TMS Titanium also serves as a titanium supplier for McLeod Racing. 

McLeod Racing is a highly respected company in the aftermarket driveline performance and racing products sector. TMS Titanium, under the leadership of CEO and President Todd Harrison, supplies the titanium inner liners required for McLeod Racing’s SFI aluminum bellhousing, used in street and racing performance vehicles.

“TMS Titanium products are of the highest quality,” Lee said. “When we first designed our SFI spun-aluminum performance bellhousing, we needed a dependable supplier for the titanium inner liners for safety in case of a clutch failure. Todd was our first and only call because we knew they could perform in both customer service and delivery. They have been and continue to be a valuable vendor for McLeod Racing.” 

On his “fun” side, Lee opted to upgrade his Funny Car team from the five-disc clutch set-up to the six. With the help of Harrison, the TMS team were able to supply all the necessary titanium material to make the off-season change. 

 
“The clutch units in today’s top fuel and nitro funny cars are entirely machined from high strength 6AL4V titanium,” says Lee. “Actually, it’s an NHRA rule and a good one. Titanium is strong, resists heat, and returns to its form when faced with extreme heat. And most importantly, it is the safest material for the high stresses of top fuel drag racing.” 

Todd Harrison, CEO and President of TMS Titanium is no stranger to the world of NHRA drag racing. In fact, his company has become the go-to supplier of titanium for the racing industry. TMS Titanium, which started in Harrison’s garage in 2006, has since obtained ISO 9001:2008 and AS9100C quality assurance certifications. Initially supplying materials to renowned national aviation, space, and defense organizations, Harrison’s passion for racing led him to establish his own racing program.
