PREPARATIONS HAVE BEEN "CHAOTIC" FOR THE KORETSKY FAMILY HEADED INTO NEW ROLE AS NATIONAL EVENT TRACK OWNERS

When the term Chaos is your nickname, you’re likely not the type to sit idle and wait for things to happen.

“Captain Chaos” Kenny Koretsky stepped forward to save the legacy of Maple Grove Raceway and purchased the historic drag strip some five months ago. And ever since, the former drag racer, along with his sons
Kenny Jr. and current Pro Stock driver Kyle have been burning the candle at both ends to ensure Maple Grove Raceway makes a lasting impression when the Camping World Drag Racing Series rolls into town for this weekend’s 37th annual Pep Boys NHRA Nationals.

Just as the Koretsky’s do in their personal lives, they strive for the drag strip to leave a lasting impression.

“It’s taken a lot of work from everyone, and there’s still a lot of work to be done, but we’re proud of what we’ve done and the response we’ve already heard from fans and racers,” Kyle Koretsky said. “We’ve even had racers who have offered to help the place succeed. There’s a lot of history here, and we want to make sure this track succeeds. Our family has put our heart and soul into this and there’s no room for failure. That’s not in our vocabulary. We’ve built a strong team here and we’re looking forward to having a great race and a great future here.”

The Koretsky’s have upgraded both track towers, as well as the VIP Suites and the timing tower. They have also improved the track’s audio system as well as added new LED lighting throughout the facility. The top end of the track has been widened to 35 feet.

The creature comforts also got a new facelift. New paint has been applied to the various parts of the facility for a refreshing new look, and for those camping, the Koretskys have ensured that 11 new spots have been added to the campground with intentions to add 30 more by next season. An essential part of any drag strip experience, the bathrooms have been renovated as well. New concession menu items are just one of the many items intended to take the fan experience to a new level.

“It’s taken a lot of work to get it to our standard, and it’s going to continue to take work. We’re not done yet,” Koretsky said. “The racetrack is only part of it. Fans want a clean facility, they want to eat well, and we want to make sure we give our customers and fans a great facility. That’s something we take a lot of pride in and that’s what we want to accomplish here.”

For the Koretsky Family, the improvements are fitting for an event they feel sets the mood for the playoffs. All four Camping World Drag Racing Series categories will be in competition this weekend.

“I hope everyone notices and enjoys the work we’ve put in,” Koretsky said. “If you saw this place five months ago to today, you would have said this wasn’t even possible. We want to see that excitement from everyone when they get here. We’ve had some hiccups and it’s been stressful and a lot of hours, but seeing the excitement from all the hard work everyone has put in that’s the icing on the cake for me. We’re hoping for a packed house, and we want to make this a premier facility.”
