STANFIELD GETS THE FIRST PRO STOCK BACK-TO-BACK IN WINNING NORWALK

Pro Stock racer Aaron Stanfield had a lot on the line Sunday afternoon when he rolled to the starting line twice for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals finals. He fell short of winning the Factory X title but sealed the deal in the Pro Stock division, beating Dallas Glenn.

Stanfield became only the third two-time winner in 2024 and the first to do so back-to-back.

“It is a very busy race day and I’m still trying to process everything because everything’s happening really fast when you get going in both cars,” Stanfield explained. “But man, all I’ve got to say is I had a really good race car in the Pro Stock today. It was bad fast, and I didn’t drive as good as I did last weekend, but I guess I drove good enough to get the job done, and hats off to all my guys.”

Stanfield’s win came in a rematch of the final round in Richmond. He and Glenn are clearly cut from the same cloth.

“We both kind of come from the same background, and he’s a tough competitor, and it feels good to turn the win light on, but we’re both hard-working people, and we’ve really grind it to get in the position we are, and it is cool to get to race against him, and he’s bad to the bone so I know I’ve got to be on my best to beat him, but just cool moments.”

Stanfield said losing the final round of FX bothered him some, but his experience in drag racing has always been to maintain a short memory.

“Normally, it doesn’t serve as any kind of distraction, but I felt like we lost the final round we probably should have won,” Stanfield said. “It bothered me a little bit, but just you got to have a short memory when you’re doing it like we were doing it and just shake it off and get in the other one and make sure we at least come away with one of them. But that’s three times I’ve had both cars in the final round this year, and I was really wanting to pull off the double with the FX car. It didn’t happen today, but we still got a couple more chances to do it.”

Stanfield’s road to the final round included victories over Chris McGaha, Deric Kramer, and Cristian Cuadra.

Glenn reached the finals for the fifth time this season and the 22nd time in his career, picking up round wins against Jeg Coughlin Jr., Fernando Cuadra Jr., and Mason McGaha. He also extended his points lead to 89 over Greg Anderson, who fell in the first round. Reigning world champ Erica Enders also lost in the opening round.

The win moved Stanfield up to fourth in the Pro Stock points.

With two weekends off from racing, Stanfield said his team has a clear plan for maintaining the momentum.

“Go home and make sure our equipment’s in all the tip-top shape and make sure I keep my head on straight,” Stanfield explained. “And we need to keep going and doing the same thing. I felt like I probably should have drove a little bit better today, but it was enough and I think that’s as simple as that.”
