YELLOWBULLET.COM NATIONALS TO SHOWCASE OUTLAW 10.5 IS BACK

Proof that Outlaw 10.5 racing is stronger than ever will be evident during this weekend’s 8th Annual YellowBullet.com Nationals, held Aug. 31 to Sept. 3 over Labor Day weekend at Cecil County Dragway in Rising Sun, Md. On display will be the exciting and close racing that racers in the Mickey Thompson Outlaw 10.5 Series can produce thanks to its rules package and tires they use, which have resulted in a tight championship points race.

“For years racers talked about wanting a fair rules package and the tire to be the limiting factor in races, and now they have that with our series,” said Mickey Thompson Outlaw 10.5 Series Director Jerry Morgano. “We’ve hit a performance wall with the 10.5 tire as far as how fast the cars can go. They can definitely go faster, but it takes some finesse. I think there has been only six cars in the 3s in the last four years. It takes special conditions, a special track, and a team that has their tune-up together to do it.”

Added incoming points leader Mo Hall, “The series and rules package that Jim [Halsey] and Dave-O [Dave O’Donnell] have assembled has some of the closest and best racing bar none. The competition is close each and every race. Anytime you have to work at something it is more special to achieve. We look forward to the final set of races for the season with optimism and are encouraged and driven by the group that we get to race against. No matter what, when you win in this series you have accomplished something with work ethic and effort, not just a cubic dollar reward.”

Only 600 points separate the Top 5 racers entering the YellowBullet.com Nationals, but what is especially amazing, and perhaps unique to only 10.5 racing, is that every possible racing combination in the class is represented in the Top 5. Hall runs a big-block nitrous combo, second-place Mike Decker Jr. uses a screw blower combo, third-place Joe Newsham and fourth-place Jesse Lambert have conventional-headed big-block turbo cars, and fifth-place Nick Agostino drives a small-block twin-turbo car.

“The caliber of competition that we have faced this season so far in Outlaw 10.5 is beyond comparison,” said Lambert. “Right now the points race can go multiple ways depending on the outcome of the next few races to close out the season. The YellowBullet.com Nationals is the Daytona 500 for the Outlaw 10.5 class, and it brings out the best competitors from across the country.”

Last year’s YellowBullet.com Nationals drew 575 race cars and more than 12,000 spectators over the course of the event, the largest car count and turnout for a single event in Cecil County Dragway history, and this year’s numbers are expected to increase.

“This is one of the biggest races that we have and everybody shows up,” said Morgano. “Cars from Canada, from the Midwest, from all over the country, come to this event because of the close racing and great atmosphere. We have three races left to determine the championship, and it all starts this weekend with the YellowBullet.com Nationals.”
Hall added, “Every year my father gets to make the journey to YellowBullet and spends time with me and my family. That alone makes the event very special to me. The event gave the 10.5 world a great place to join together and compete against the best that 10.5 has to offer, which is what the old World Street Nationals used to give us.

“It also gives back to the people who kept 10.5 racing alive when everyone else was not giving it a chance to succeed. Monty Mihko, Jim Halsey, and Dave-O have done more for this sport than anyone could imagine, and it feels good to give them back with such a successful event.”
