FUEL ALTEREDS PART OF MAPLE GROVE NOSTALGIA EVENT

It’s a very simple fact: A nostalgia drag race – like the Geezers Reunion at The Grove, for instance – just wouldn’t be complete without the appearance of a fuel altered car or two.

During the early 1960s, these cars were known for the rebellious nature, as they burned nitro fuel during a time when the NHRA, believe it or not, banned the substance in competition.

In fact, this ninth edition of this event, presented by Yuengling, will have two of them – Rat Trap and Pure Hell. They will be part of a special round of races at 7 and 9 p.m. Saturday night.

NOAKES AND MARTIN TO RACE PMRA PRO MOD

of the PMRA year.

Noakes, who was a top contender in the IHRA Alcohol Funny Car ranks for over 20 years, decided to get into the doorslammer after the IHRA closed the door on the Funny Car class.

A HEALTHY SCOTT RAY SHOWCASING PERFORMANCE

When Scott Ray thinks about the past, it’s hard for him to believe the present.

Back at the end of February of 2009, things seemed normal for Ray. He was at his team’s shop in Greenville, Ohio, working on his 1953 Pro Modified Corvette.

Then, Ray’s life changed in an instant as he suffered a heart attack. He was only 48 years old.

WAITING ON THE ‘ICEMAN’

heath_jenkinsWith Pro Nitrous star Shannon Jenkins known as “The Iceman,” does that make his son, Heath, an “Ice Chip” off the old block?

That may not be the nickname the 25-year-old is looking for, but there’s no question Heath Jenkins wants to replicate his father’s on-track success. There’s only one major obstacle - his father.

“He’s definitely ready,” the former IHRA and NHRA Pro Mod world champion and multi-time ADRL race winner says of Heath’s aspirations. “I’m just not ready to stop driving yet.”

RACERS, FANS SUPPORT SMILE TRAIN TO THE TUNE OF $21,000

Smile Train was the biggest winner as Tony Pedregon and his wife Andrea’s special auction Saturday at Summit Motorsports Park raised an impressive $21,400 to help treat children suffering from cleft lip and palate.

Attracted by hard-to-get souvenir items and the chance to mingle with some of NHRA’s top drivers, about 200 generous fans bid for such prized possessions as NHRA drivers’ starting-line shirts, autographed driving gloves from NASCAR’s Jimmie Johnson, a Taylor Swift autographed and framed CD, plus many other objects.

VIDEOS FROM THE OCIR

Dwight Guild has a video page to die for if you're a fan of the classic stuff. His countless videos focusing on racing at Orange County International Raceway in Southern California has not only some of the finest footage from January 1980 and 1981, but also great sound.

"I shot many many hours of "home movie" style drag race video, primarily from OCIR, 1979 thru 1983," wrote Guild on his Youtube.com channel. "I decided to break down the videos into individual runs, and load them up for racers, their families, fans, and friends to enjoy. Aside from shooting tons of video over the years, I also served as a crew member or crew chief on various cars, including several of Hayden Proffitt's. Props to Hayden, my racing mentor, and Al Amato, my video mentor."
