MWDRS GEARING UP FOR DOUBLE EVENT AT TULSA'S FALL THROWDOWN IN T-TOWN

A big weekend is on tap for the Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Drag Racing Series (MWDRS) presented by J&A Service, as the series will crown event champions for two different events at the fall edition of the Throwdown in T-Town, Oct. 6-8, at Osage Casino & Hotel Tulsa Raceway Park. Eliminations from the MWDRS Great Bend Nationals in June will be completed Thursday before kicking off the Tulsa race, adding another element to the historic event.

“We’re coming up on our 30th edition of the Throwdown in T-Town,” said Keith Haney, founder of MWDRS and co-owner of Tulsa Raceway Park. “We do two a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The fan turnout is always amazing. Everybody looks forward to racing at the Throwdown just because of the atmosphere itself. Todd [Martin, track co-owner] does a great job interacting with the fans. Having Al Tucci and Luke Clevenger on the mic and all of them interacting together is pretty cool too.”

24TH ANNUAL WHIPPLE SUPERCHARGERS NMRA WORLD FINALS RESULTS

The 24th Annual Whipple Superchargers NMRA All-Ford World Finals presented by Competition Clutch & Holley Intergalactic Ford Festival at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky, recently wrapped up another successful season.

The 16-car field of VP Racing Madditives Renegade was tight, with defending and two-time champion Joel Greathouse leading the charge in qualifying with a 4.52. The finals came down to Greathouse and his KBX Performance teammate Shawn Pevlor, with Pevlor collecting his first NMRA win in his nitrous-assisted machine, 4.51 to 4.58.

HILTON PURCHASES FORMER BARTONE & LEBOR AA/FD FOR CHAMPIONSHIP RUN

The points lead can inspire a team to do many things. For Bobby Hilton, it inspired him to go out and purchase a championship-winning car. He has great expectations for the season now that his team has an essential piece of the puzzle - the AA/FD formerly driven by Tony Bartone.

Hilton fields a Nostalgia Top Fuel dragster driven by his son Tyler. Tyler took over the points lead in June when a staged boycott by members of the All American Fuel Dragsters group kept all but two teams from attending the NHRA Heritage Series' Holley Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, Ky.

The Hiltons not only attended but won the event and grabbed the accompanying points. He held the points lead until the most recent event in Tulsa.

LEGENDS NITRO FUNNY CARS TO BE SHOWCASED AT NHRA NEVADA NATIONALS

The penultimate event of the 2022 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series will be enhanced with Legends Nitro Funny Cars being part of the action at the NHRA Nevada Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Oct. 27-30.

The invitation-only event will feature 12 entries competing for eight qualifying spots with a winner being crowned after three elimination rounds. The category consists of Funny Cars with 1979-or-older body styles, blown nitromethane-fueled engines, two-speed transmissions, and 21-gpm fuel pumps harkening back to a wildly popular era of Funny Car racing.

ENDERS WINS ST. LOUIS FOR THE SIXTH TIME, LEAVES WITH 120-POINT LEAD

News flash... Erica Enders is a human being - though her performances may sometimes look robotic.

The four-time NHRA Pro Stock champion, with her win on Sunday at the NHRA Gateway Nationals, extended her point lead to 120 with a final round victory over Dallas Glenn. The victory marked her eighth of the season.

Enders also posted her sixth win at World Wide Technology Raceway and her fourth in a row. She beat Chris McGaha, Troy Coughlin Jr., and No. 1 qualifier Kyle Koretsky to reach the final round.

"Sounds to me like a good day," Enders said. "It was pretty intense. Coming in, we lost in the semis last week in Charlotte. My teammate Aaron went on to win, and we had a 64-point spread on him, and it got further as you went down. But second-round racing, my teammate TJ, I know exactly what he is capable of and the power that he has because I have the same. So being able to beat him and watching Aaron and Greg both go out that round, it was a pretty huge point swing there. Then going on to win the race was obviously the best outcome."

STEVE TORRENCE RIGHT BACK IN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP HUNT WITH ST. LOUIS VICTORY

Most NHRA Top Fop Fuel drivers would be satisfied with being fifth in the points standings with four races to go in the season.
Steve Torrence isn’t most drivers.

Torrence has won four Top Fuel world championships in a row and kept his chance for No. 5 alive by winning Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology Raceway in St. Louis Sunday.

Torrence clocked a 3.741-second elapsed time at 328.70 mph to edge Josh Hart’s 3.749-second time at 329.67 lap.

HIGHT GOES ON THE OFFENSIVE IN WINNING ST. LOUIS FUNNY CAR TITLE

George Washington was many things to many people and is largely credited with the paraphrased comment in 1799, "The best offense is a strong defense."

With all due respect, the first president of the United States never had to battle the likes of Ron Capps, Matt Hagan, and Bob Tasca III. And, he never did so behind the wheel of an 11,000-horse, nitro-burning Funny Car.

Let this sink in. Hight scored his second win of the Countdown to the Championship at the NHRA Midwest Nationals, stopping Ron Capps. Hight has won eight national events in 2022, two of three in the Countdown, and only leads Capps by 46 points. That's two rounds and six qualifying bonus points.

MATT SMITH RIDES HIS BUELL TO ST. LOUIS WIN TO TAKE POINTS LEAD

The drive for six NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle world championships is alive and well for Matt Smith.

Smith, the reigning world champ, made sure of that by winning the Midwest Nationals at World Wide Technology Raceway in St. Louis Sunday.

Smith, on his Denso-sponsored Buell, clocked a 6.756-second elapsed time at 202.00 mph to defeat Jerry Savoie, who came in at 6.819 seconds at 197.77 mph.

Smith, who arrived in St. Louis second in the points standings, 29 points behind Joey Gladstone, is back in first by 21 points over him now..
