TORRENCE REGAINS WINNING FORM, EXPANDS TOP FUEL LEAD ON FORCE

Top Fuel points leader Steve Torrence received a phone call – and a scolding – from his crew last week. 

“They were pissed off at me,” he said, because of his reaction times that they decided were a little on the snoozy side and what cost him victories in the past two Countdown races.

Cruz Pedregon is a two-time NHRA nitro Funny Car world champ in 1992 and 2008. He’s trying to make it three titles.

Pedregron is in position to do just that after winning the Dodge//SRT NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

After he defeated red-lighting Karen Stoffer for his third Pro Stock Motorcycle triumph of the Camping World Drag Racing Series season Sunday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the Dodge//SRT Nationals, he received along with his special-edition black Wally trophy an oversized casino chip replica to commemorate the NHRA’s 1,000th race.

Lyle Barnett capped off his rookie season in the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service in impressive fashion, taking his second victory in three races as part of this weekend’s Dodge//SRT NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. 

The event was the last of 11 events during the 2021 E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series season.

PSM WORLD CHAMP SMITH KEEPS POINTS LEAD SAFE BY QUALIFYING ON TOP AT VEGAS

Reigning NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle world champion Matt Smith is aiming to win his third world title in four years and fifth overall.

The veteran from King, N.C. did his part to keep his lead by grabbing the No. 1 qualifying position at the Dodge//SRT NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil at the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He currently holds a slim 25-point lead over Angelle Sampey and a 56-point advantage over third place Steve Johnson.

JOE WELCH NO. 1 AT FACTORY STOCK SHOWDOWN SEASON FINALE AT LAS VEGAS

Joe Welch, ran to his second Constant Aviation Factory Stock Showdown No. 1 qualifier of the season this weekend at the Dodge//SRT NHRA Las Vegas Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Welch made his quickest run on Friday night. Tonight he backed it up with the quickest run of the final session to solidify his position as the Factory Stock team to beat on race day. His qualifying effort was not without challenges for the driver from Longboat Key, Florida.
 
“We had some bad luck on the first run and for some reason the RacePak didn’t record, and we lost all our data,” said Welch. “The second time up I stumbled, and we got no data again. The Challenger is running good but we are coming up here shooting blind. We have been battling with the combination of the two-step and the idle with this new supercharger. We are closing in on it. Once I get off the starting line, I am fine.”
