Despite her destructive efforts, Mother Nature couldn't manage to tip the scales in her favor at the NMRA/Red Line Oil NMCA Race for the Rings & Saturday Thrill Festival, May 3-5, 2024 at World Wide Technology Raceway outside of St. Louis.
The racing went on as planned with an added showcase of jet cars, high-jumping FMX Motocross, BIGFOOT monster truck, a car show and a manufacturers’ midway..
“After we were hit with the storm on Saturday, we concentrated on clean-up efforts so that we could produce this event as promised for our racers and race fans,” said Rollie Miller, General Manager and National Event Director for NMCA and NMRA. “Our NMCA Starting Line Team, TVC Track Prep Team and Brad Cannon of World Wide Technology Raceway were at the track late after the rain passed to dry the track and they were back well before dawn to prep the racing surface in time for an 8:30 a.m. start on Sunday. That led to some of the most amazing racing we have seen so far this season.”

Four-time Top Fuel champion Shirley Muldowney has more than enough accomplishments to quantify her status as a drag racing legend. However, one of her most significant accomplishments often gets overshadowed.
Muldowney is heralded for her exploits in driving a dragster. Let the record reflect that she is also in the drag racing history books as the first female driver to have ever won a national event behind the wheel of a nitro-burning Funny Car. After a storied career, an event in 1971 stands as the only Funny Car national event victory for the lady whose Mustang also featured sponsorship from Fredrick's of Hollywood.

Once upon a time there were facilities a third the quality and size of stunning Route 66 Raceway in Joliet that were slam-packed with race fans who couldn’t get enough straight-line action. It was roughly the 10-year period from the early 60s through the early 70s, and the place was “Chicagoland,” an area that roughly encompassed not only the Windy City itself, but the surrounding environs. From northern Indiana on the south, all the way to Cordova in the distant southwest, to Rockford directly west on I-90, and even into Wisconsin north of the city, this was the region that locals knew as Chicagoland.

If Pro Street icon Annette Summer's last five weeks could have been any more of a whirlwind, it would have been an F5 tornado.
Summer, the first lady of Pro Street racing back in the 1990s, in a span of five weeks has resurrected her old "pink" Camaro and took delivery of a drag racing relic.
Summer is racing Brian Havlik's Fastest Street Car Shootout at Tri-State Raceway in Earlville, Iowa. This is a reunion of sorts of the cars that raced in the early years of the NMCA.
