SPORTSMAN RESULTS FROM MILE HIGH NATIONALS

Sunday's final results from the 41st annual Dodge//SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Bandimere Speedway. The race is the eighth of 20 in the NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series:

MOTHER NATURE FORCES PDRA SUMMER SHOOTOUT INTO SUNDAY

The Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) was just two pairs away from completing the second round of eliminations in the pro classes when a thunderstorm halted racing action at the Summer Shootout presented by Ty-Drive. The race will continue Sunday morning at Virginia Motorsports Park.

“We were pushing to get as much racing as possible in before that storm hit, but it hit hard enough to completely shut us down for the night,” said Tyler Crossnoe, race director, PDRA. “Our PDRA and Virginia Motorsports Park teams will work through the night to get the track dry and prepped for Sunday eliminations. We’ll start back up at 11 a.m. and do our best to get this race finished up as soon as possible.”

B. FORCE, HAGAN, AND M. SMITH QUALIFY NO. 1 IN DENVER

Brittany Force unleashed the quickest run in the history of Bandimere Speedway on Saturday, rocketing to the No. 1 position in Top Fuel in front of a huge crowd at the Dodge//SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil.

Matt Hagan (Funny Car) and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also qualified No. 1 in their respective categories at the eighth race of the 2021 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season.

Force, a former Top Fuel world champ, put together a monstrous track-record run of 3.717-seconds at 326.00 mph in her 11,000-horsepower Monster Energy dragster to close out qualifying. That gave Force her third No. 1 qualifier in 2021 and 23rd in her career, as she tries to close in on her first win of the season and also her first victory on Thunder Mountain in Denver. She’s been close throughout the year, advancing to a pair of final rounds and Force will look to finish the job on Sunday.

TORRENCE CAPS TOP FUEL SESSION, DAY 1 ON MOUNTAIN WITH 3.77 PASS

Top Fuel points leader and reigning champion Steve Torrence was excited to have a night qualifying session Friday to open the Dodge//SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals Presented By Pennzoil at Bandimere Speedway – even though he said, “It’s way past my bedtime.”

But the Capco Contractors Dragster driver salvaged the class’ sketchy performance, grabbing the provisional No. 1 qualifying position with the only three-second Top Fuel pass on the suburban Denver 1,000-foot course.

He used a 3.778-second elapsed time at 327.11 mph “to put on a show like that, just to cap the day off. There were not a lot of good runs out there. To finish strong for the fans like that – and for the Capco team - was awesome.

HAGAN TAKES PROVISIONAL NO. 1 FUNNY CAR QUALIFYING SPOT AT BANDIMERE

MILLICAN BACK IN DRIVER’S SEAT

Top Fuel driver Clay Millican loves to be behind the wheel competing for NHRA national event wins.
Millican, a fan favorite, had to sit out the last event on NHRA’s Camping World Drag Racing Series – the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio – with an inner ear infection.

Austin Prock filled in for Millican in the Stringer Performance and advanced to the semifinals before losing to eventual event champion Steve Torrence.

Now, is eager more than ever to be back driving at the Dodge//SRT Mile-High Nationals NHRA Nationals Presented by Pennzoil on July 16-18 in Morrison, Colo., just outside of Denver.

HAGAN, S. TORRENCE LEAD MILE-HIGH NHRA NATIONALS QUALIFYING

Trying to solve Bandimere Speedway for the first time in his standout career, defending Funny Car world champion Matt Hagan started strong on Friday, rolling to the provisional No. 1 spot at the Dodge//SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil.

Steve Torrence (Top Fuel) and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle) are also provisional No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the eighth race of the 2021 NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series season.

In a thrilling side-by-side race with Don Schumacher Racing teammate Ron Capps, Hagan powered to the top with a run of 3.966-seconds at 319.22 mph in his 11,000-horsepower Mopar Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye. It puts the veteran in position to qualify No. 1 for the second time this season and 42nd time overall. Hagan is still looking for his first victory of the year following his championship season and getting it at his sponsor’s race in Denver would be rewarding considering his struggles at the fan-favorite facility over the years.

PSM RIDER STEVE JOHNSON’S NO. 1 RUN DISQUALIFIED

Steve Johnson appeared headed toward his second straight No. 1 qualifying position in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class as action kicked off Friday at the Dodge//SRT Mile-High NHRA Nationals Presented By Pennzoil at Denver’s Bandimere Speedway.

Johnson recorded the third-quickest elapsed time in the history of the Morrison, Colo., facility – 7.130 seconds on the quarter-mile course – to claim the provisional No. 1 berth.

HALSEY, CAMP, CARR SET THE PACE AT PDRA SUMMER SHOOTOUT

Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) standouts Jim Halsey and JR Carr maintained their perfect No. 1 qualifying records at the all-eighth-mile series’ fifth race on tour, the Summer Shootout presented by Ty-Drive at Virginia Motorsports Park. For the fifth consecutive race, Halsey ended up No. 1 in Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous and Carr led the field in Liberty’s Gears Extreme Pro Stock presented by AED Competition.
