COX, RIVENBARK, PLUCHINO TOP PDRA MID-ATLANTIC WINNERS

Hard work and dozens of test passes between events paid off for Jay Cox as he took down defending world champion Jim Halsey in the Switzer Dynamics Pro Nitrous final round at the Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) Proline Racing Mid-Atlantic Showdown presented by Frederick Line-X Saturday night.

Along with Cox, Kevin Rivenbark (Penske/PRS Pro Boost presented by WS Construction), Johnny Pluchino (Liberty’s Gears Extreme Pro Stock), Dillon Voss ($hameless Racing Pro Outlaw 632) and Tim Essick (Drag 965 Pro Street) collected professional class victories at the Virginia Motorsports Park event.

STEVIE FAST PLAYS THE NUMBERS EN ROUTE TO MAGIC 8 TOP QUALIFIER

Stevie “Fast” Jackson was scheming on Friday night. His plotting wasn’t anything unethical or underhanded; he simply didn’t want to race his “teammate” Marcus Birt anytime before the final round, at the Duck X Productions Magic Eight event in Orlando, Fla.

Headed into the sixth and final qualifying session, Jackson was third while the nitrous car he tunes, piloted by Marcus Birt was at the top of the list. If he dropped one spot in the order, he could fall to fourth, and the two would be on a course to possibly meet in the semis.

Jackson could have tried to be on the safe side, but finishing second in anything isn’t the way he rolls. In true “Stevie Fast” form the popular doorslammer racer swung his bat and delivered a shot into the upper deck with a 3.582 elapsed time at 210.93 miles per hour.

CPTV VIDEO: RECAPPING THE NHRA LUCAS OIL SUMMERNATIONALS

The final rounds of the Lucas Oil NHRA Summernationals at Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Raceway have been delayed due to inclement weather. After a lengthy rain delay before the finals in Top Fuel and Funny Car, NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series officials announced the fourth race of the 2020 season will be completed during the Denso Spark Plugs NHRA U.S. Nationals, which takes place Sept. 3-6 at Lucas Oil Raceway.

In Top Fuel, a first-time winner will be crowned as T.J. Zizzo and rookie Justin Ashley both advanced to the final round for the first time in their careers. After qualifying eighth in his 11,000-horsepower Rust-Oleum dragster, Zizzo reach the final with victories against Terry Totten, Todd Paton and Terry McMillen. Ashley continued to impress during his standout rookie season, advancing to his first final round in his Strustmasters.com/Menards dragster with victories against Shawn Langdon, points leader Doug Kalitta and Leah Pruett. Zizzo or Ashley will also become the 109th different Top Fuel winner in NHRA history.

Michalek Brothers Racing (MBR) heads into the 2020 race season with high levels of optimism and excitement. Coming off a career best run at MBR’s most recent outing, the team is hard at work preparing for a return to NHRA National Event competition in 2020 and 2021. The catalyst behind these opportunities is the brand new primary partnership with Fund That Flip, a leader in providing short-term loans to experienced real estate investors.

“We are honored and very excited to have the opportunity to partner with the Fund That Flip team,” says Kyle Michalek, co-owner of MBR. “We see many complementary strengths between our race team, the NHRA fan base, and the Fund That Flip team that can be leveraged to create wins for all parties. We have several ideas for engaging NHRA fans through social media initiatives and at-track programs that will be both impactful and a lot of fun. I can’t wait to get this program started and get back to the track to burn some nitro!”

CRAIG SULLIVAN HAS MASTERED THE ART OF VERSATILITY

A forgetful person might slip up if they’ve driven as many types of cars that Craig Sullivan has in recent years.

He’s raced in three categories, all with different types of power adders to boost the horsepower potential of each vehicle’s engine.

Hopping from one seat to another isn’t as simple as it might seem. After all, a car’s a car, right? But each power adder Sullivan has used has unique characteristics that require razor-sharp focus. There was a learning curve for each, just as was the case for other drivers who have tried all three boosters, including Pro Modified standout Todd Tutterow and former PDRA Pro Boost world champ Kevin Rivenbark.
