Pro Stock driver Robert River had all intentions of competing in NHRA’s Mello Yello Series event July 11-12 in Indianapolis.

Then an emergency happened.

Allan Industries, a leader in janitorial and disaster restoration services, has signed on as the primary sponsor on Doug Foley’s Foley Lewis Racing Top Fuel dragster for the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Nationals in Indianapolis, July 11-12. The race is the first NHRA Mello Yello Series event since the COVID-19 public health crisis put the season on hold in early March.
 
“There’s never been a better time for us to help Allan Industries spread the word about their commercial cleaning services,” said Doug Foley. “We’ve been proud to have Allan Industries on board since we started the season at Phoenix in February, and I couldn’t be more excited to have them step up as our primary sponsor for our first race back.”

A Jefferson County judge announced Thursday that a temporary restraining order will remain in place for Bandimere Speedway, which is in Morrison, Colo., 20 minutes from Denver.

“I don’t want to rush it; the case has a lot of implications. I need to make an interpretation of the law that may be new,” Judge Tamara Russell said.

For the last month or so, Steve Torrence’s name and his intentions have run up, down and all around the drag racing rumor mill. In the end, those rumors proved to be just that ... rumors.

What is a fact; however, is Torrence has been awful busy for the last four-and-a-half months while drag racing was at a standstill after NHRA suspended competition in their Mello Yello Drag Racing Series amidst a global pandemic.

Torrence got married, celebrated a birthday, reconnected with friends and family and focused his energy on Torrence Land and Cattle Co., the business to which he likely will gravitate once his he’s finished racing.

For now, Torrence is ready to go drag racing at this weekend’s E3 Spark Plugs Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway.

One month after Mason McGaha graduated high school, he will make his professional drag racing debut at this weekend’s NHRA Nationals at Indianapolis. This third-generation racer and son of NHRA Pro Stock National Champion Chris McGaha, secured his NHRA pro stock car license Wednesday, during a test session at Tulsa Raceway Park.

“I am looking forward to racing with my Dad (Chris McGaha) and Grandpa (Lester McGaha),” Mason said. “We have spent the last 9 months working on creating a two-car team, and I am proud to be able to make that a reality for my family.”

Jefferson County Public Health (JCPH) said it would pursue legal action after it said Bandimere Speedway violated a public health order with its Fourth of July celebration over the weekend and Wednesday morning they were in court for a preliminary injunction hearing.

The hearing began at 8 a.m. (MT) and lasted all day, but there was no decision made yet on Jefferson County’s request for a temporary injunction against Bandimere Speedway, which is in Morrison, Colo., 20 minutes from Denver. A second day of testimony is scheduled for Thursday.

In this case Judge Tamara Russell will rule on the injunction request. If the county attorney wants to push ahead with a contempt citation. claiming violation of a temporary restraining order, over last weekend’s show, that will require a separate hearing.

Steve Sisko had plenty of time to think about what he accomplished on a 725-mile ride from Martin, Mich., to home in Williamstown, N.J., last weekend.

If he’d sung a customized version of “100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall,” he’d have run out of time before he ran out of verses. After all, even with a break to grab some shut-eye in Ohio along the way, it’s going to take some time to croon 1.2 million verses of even the simplest ditty. 

One-point-two million is how many dollars Sisko, who works at an auto salvage business, earned over a week’s worth of racing in the Jeg’s-SFG Million at U.S. 131 Motorsports Park.

Cameron Ferré will not be joining the rest of the NHRA this weekend as the season restarts after a several month break due to the coronavirus. Ferré said that Terry Haddock elected to sit the Top Fuel Dragster for several races. 

The NHRA returns to Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana this weekend for competition on July 11-12, 2020. It’s their first national event with the pro classes since February’s event at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona. 

“I’ve had a lot of people ask about my racing plans over the next few weeks, so I thought I’d fill you in,”  Ferré said. “It pains me to say, but unfortunately, I won’t be at the race in Indy this weekend. As we all know, life looks a lot different these days, which has had a significant impact on many racing teams plans, including mine. Next few races wit hthe dragster. This does not mean I am finished racing Top Fuel. No way! I’m confident I will be back doing what I love sooner than later. 

Al Gennarelli and Dan Van Horn, two successful businessmen united by their passion for fast cars, have taken the first step toward becoming the new owners of Rockingham Dragway, the iconic Carolina facility that, upon its construction in 1968, was one of the first dragstrips to feature amenities like permanent restrooms, concrete grandstands and corporate suites.

Through a unique agreement with Steve Earwood, who has owned, operated and upgraded the multi-purpose facility since buying it from the L.G. Dewitt family in 1992, Gennarelli, 49, and Van Horn, 47, will spend the next two years observing events at the track and learning the basics of racetrack operation before assuming full ownership in October, 2022.

In the interim, Earwood emphasized that it will be business as usual at The Rock with a full slate of diverse events including next week’s 29th annual Griffin Motors MOPARS at the Rock expo featuring the Modern Street Hemi Shootout series Van Horn created in 2009 and in which he and Gennarelli both compete.  

NHRA Funny Car racer Bob Tasca III announced Monday he has tested positive for coronavirus and that Jonnie Lindberg will drive the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Mustang at this weekend’s E3 Spark Plugs Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

But does Lindberg, the 30-year-old from Sweden who lives and works at Brownsburg, Ind., have an advantage as he jumps into a completely foreign Funny Car and competes in the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series for the first time since last November? 

Maybe.
