FLAMHOLC LEADS WINNERS AT NMCA/NMRA ALL-STAR NATIONALS

While the Coronavirus pandemic pushed pause on the 2020 NMCA and NMRA season, drivers in both series pushed play at the 12th Annual Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals, June 25-28 at Atlanta Dragway.

If they were rusty from the recess, they didn’t show it, as they put down plenty of power while pursuing the coveted Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle in the Peach State.

On the NMCA side, Adam Flamholc flew to a 3.73 in his Corvette to set the pace in VP Racing Lubricants Xtreme Pro Mod, where all but two drivers in the category also posted 3-second passes despite high heat and heavy humidity. The stellar Swedish driver was determined all weekend long, and won with a 3.85 against Craig Sullivan, who was no slouch before being forced to click off at 4.05 in his Daytona.

Although the 12th Annual Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center NMRA/NMCA All-Star Nationals at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia, was originally scheduled to be run in April, the repercussions from the Covid-19 pandemic forced a date change to June 26-28, 2020. It was definitely worth the wait, though, as the event was run to completion over a near-perfect weekend and racers and fans alike were thrilled to be back out cutting lights and clicking off runs at “Georgia’s House of Speed.” A combined event for both NMRA and NMCA only added to the excitement, while the huge car show and expansive vendor midway amped up the atmosphere even further. At the event’s conclusion, champions were crowned in the Aerospace Components Winner’s Circle and cars were eagerly loaded into trailers in preparation for the next event in just a few short weeks.

THE WORLD'S FASTEST CLUB PROVIDED FOUNDATION FOR FUTURE OF PRO MODIFIED

12-10-07worldsfastest.jpgCharles Carpenter is lucky he didn’t get himself hurt – hurt real bad. But, it was a chance he was willing to take to go fast.

Carpenter, of Charlotte, NC, had a mountain-motored 1955 Chevrolet that was capable of running 8.80 elapsed times in 1983, a feat rarely achieved outside of the professional ranks during that era.

A longtime fan of the double-nickel Chevrolet, Carpenter’s shoe box was barely safe enough to run 9.90s. That didn’t stop him from pushing to limits that defied logic.

Carpenter had to be the quickest and fastest of his body make and that led him by the end of the 1983 season to bolt on a nitrous oxide kit that upped his pace to solid [and unheard of] 8.30s.
