NO FORMAL DEVELOPMENT APPLICATION CURRENTLY IN PLACE FOR ATCO DRAGWAY

There is no formal development application currently in place for Atco Dragway in Waterford Township in Atco, New Jersey, according to Paul Leakan, Communications Officer, New Jersey Pinelands Commission. The land that the drag strip and surrounding area is a part of the NJ Pinelands Commission.

The Commission, which was formed with the Federal government in 1979, is to 'preserve, protect, and enhance the natural and cultural resources of the Pinelands National Reserve, and to encourage compatible economic and other human activities consistent with that purpose." The Pinelands National Reserve oversees more than 1 million acres in seven counties in Southern New Jersey.

There have been rumors being spread on the Internet that a potential deal is looming. At the time of publication, the track -- which just got approval to operate once again due to the coronavirus -- is expected to race this weekend.

NHRA CANCELS EVENT IN SEATTLE

The Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals, originally scheduled for July 31–Aug. 2 outside of Seattle, has been canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions in Washington state and King County that would not allow fans to attend the event. NHRA made this difficult decision after exhaustive deliberation with track officials, local, state and national health officials and government authorities.

For the event to proceed with fans in attendance, King County, where the track is located, would need to reach Phase 4 of Washington’s reopening plan. As of today, King County is still in Phase 2 and with the time required before moving into subsequent phases, it would be very unlikely, if not impossible, to arrive at Phase 4 in time for the rescheduled 2020 event.

MUENKS MAKES IT TWO-IN-A-ROW WITH MWPMS WIN AT ST. LOUIS

Ron Muenks could not have envisioned a better start to his 2020 Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Pro Mod Series (MWPMS) schedule, winning two of three events held so far in a Coronavirus-interrupted seven-race season.

"It does feel pretty good after waiting so long to go racing," the Stafford, MO-based driver said upon beating Tommy Cunningham in the MWPMS "Heads Up Hootenanny" Pro Mod final June 20, to back up his second consecutive race title since last month in Texas. "But there are a lot of other good teams out here, too, so we've still got a big job to do. We're already looking forward to the next one."

CORY MAC IS BACK, FOR AT LEAST TWO RACES

Top Fuel veteran Cory ‘Mac’ McClenathan will return to Don Schumacher Racing for a two-event ‘redemption tour’ at the upcoming NHRA Indianapolis double-header at Lucas Oil Raceway next month. McClenathan, who had previously announced his drag racing retirement in 2019, is excited to temporarily rejoin NHRA’s winningest organization as he seeks his 35th Top Fuel victory.

“I had made the decision to hang up my driving shoes last year, but I ran the last three events of the 2019 season, and things didn’t go as I had hoped. I was left feeling like I had some unfinished business,” said McClenathan, who has continued to compete in the NHRA’s Top Fuel category, but on a very limited, part-time basis since his last full-time ride with DSR in 2010.

The Lucas Oil NHRA Summernationals at Indianapolis will be the second of back-to-back events in Indy for the stars of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Racing action will include thrills from the ever popular Top Fuel and Funny Car divisions as well as the 2020 season debuts of the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Series presented by J&A Service and the SAMTech.edu NHRA Factory Stock Showdown and the resumption of the Mickey Thompson Tires Top Fuel Harley Series that competed at the season’s first two events.

PDRA MARYLAND RACE MOVES TO VIRGINIA WITH NEW DATE

The Professional Drag Racers Association’s (PDRA) third race of its revised seven-race 2020 season is moving from Maryland International Raceway (MDIR) to Virginia Motorsports Park (VMP), series officials announced today.

The PDRA North-South Shootout presented by Frederick Line-X, originally scheduled for July 16-18 at MDIR, is moving back a week to July 23-25. The race is now called the Pro Line Racing Mid-Atlantic Showdown presented by Frederick Line-X. Virginia Motorsports Park is just two hours south of MDIR.

“This move will give us the best chance to race in front of fans, which is obviously the goal for everyone here at PDRA,” said Tyler Crossnoe, series director, PDRA. “I feel like the state of Virginia might allow us a limited number of fans by late July, and buying an extra week to possibly be able to race in front of fans is worth the gamble. The race will happen regardless of the fan status, but we absolutely want to race with fans in the stands.”

VOSS RACING SIGNS PARTNERSHIP WITH RACE STAR INDUSTRIES

Pro Outlaw 632 driver Dillon Voss will race with support from wheel manufacturer Race Star Industries for the rest of the 2020 season, Voss Racing announced. Voss Racing, which also includes Voss Racing Engines and Voss Engineering/Wheelie Bars, is also now a Race Star Industries dealer.

“It's huge to be able to work with Race Star Industries,” said Dillon Voss, the 2017 PDRA Pro Outlaw 632 world champion. “Their product is going to help us run faster, and inevitably it's going to help us work towards our goal of winning the championship. We're super-grateful to have Race Star come on board with us and we look forward to representing their product very well.”

SCHUMACHER WILL RETURN FOR JULY INDY EVENTS

Tony Schumacher, the winningest Top Fuel driver in NHRA history, will make his highly-anticipated return to the dragstrip when the 2020 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season resumes next month. The eight-time world champion will be back behind the wheel of a Don Schumacher Racing Top Fuel dragster to compete in the NHRA’s two consecutive July events at Lucas Oil Raceway, located just outside of downtown Indianapolis, and less than two-miles from DSR’s headquarters in Brownsburg.

Schumacher will join teammate Antron Brown in representing Steve and Samantha Bryson’s Global Electronic Technology, the fastest name in credit card processing. He will campaign Brown’s back-up car, with crew chief Brian Corradi calling the shots on both of the multi-time champions’ machines. Brown, who announced his partnership with Global Electronic Technology ahead of the 2020 season, was instrumental in bringing Schumacher and the Brysons together to fuel the second-generation racer’s return to NHRA action. Between Brown and Schumacher, the Global Top Fuel tandem boasts a combined 11 championships and 134 wins.
