NEW CAMPGROUND EXPERIENCE PROMISES GREAT THINGS FOR NHRA ARIZONA NATIONALS

 

The 36th annual NHRA Arizona Nationals on Feb. 21-23, 2020, is moving its popular Camp Wild Horse overnight campground to Maricopa Road just outside of the main gate of Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.

The new campground experience at the track located just south of Phoenix will close Maricopa Road to allow campers and fans easy access to and from the track.

THE ORIGINAL PLAN FOR PRO MOD DIDN'T INCLUDE SUPERCHARGERS OR TURBOS

 

There are four power adders included in today's modern version of Pro Modified, the volatile doorslammer division launched in 1990 by the IHRA.

However, from the words of one of its recognized founders, the original plan only had two, and one of them was not a supercharger.

This perceived blasphemy amongst blower faithful is the contention of Ted Jones, who was the President of the IHRA when Pro Modified was announced in the fall of 1989.

RICHIE CRAMPTON TO RACE IN AUSTRALIA

 

NHRA star Richie Crampton will make his debut with Rapisarda Autosport International at Santo’s Summer Thunder meeting, Sydney Dragway, January, 24-25.

“I’m delighted that Richie has agreed to come to Australia and drive for our team this weekend,” said team owner Santo Rapisarda. “My boys, Santo Jr., and Santino have got to know Richie really well when we’ve raced in America and the times he’s returned to Australia to race. He's a world-class driver and a great fit with our family team.”

NITRO FC OWNER/DRIVER BOB TASCA III AMPED UP FOR 2020 SEASON

 

The 2019 season had its ups and downs for veteran nitro Funny Car driver Bob Tasca III.

However, Tasca couldn’t be more amped up to get rolling for the 2020 NHRA Mello Yello Series campaign in his Ford Mustang Funny Car.

“Listen, I have (co-crew chiefs) Mike Neff and Jon Schaffer at the helm and eight experienced talented guys on the race car,” Tasca said. “I’ve always said I’ve never been more excited to start a season and I think every driver says that every year and I think mathematically on paper this is my best shot going into a season to win a championship I’ve ever had in my career. Excitement (for the 2020 season) is an understatement. I can’t wait to get out

2019: A BANNER YEAR FOR VINTAGE RACING IN THE UPPER MIDWEST

 

When the Chrome Czars Motor Club began staging the Hunnert Car Heads Up at the end of the first decade of the 21st century, few believed that vintage drag racing would sustain itself over the long term. After all, they reasoned, there aren't enough old cars left, and few would pay to watch them.

Now, as the second decade of this century comes to a close, the non-believers have been proven wrong, as vintage drag racing in the Upper Midwest is on solid footing, with racers and spectators supporting multiple events at multiple tracks.

grose_03.jpgTim Grose, a former nitro Funny Car driver, points out while he suffered a bad crash in 1980, he’s seen a lot worse today.

“I was fortunate to walk away. I still don’t think mine compares to some of those I’ve seen today.”

While he’d prefer that his name be associated more as a competitor who generated the most with the least, he’s still haunted by the reminders of a grisly crash that some rank as one of the worst in the class.
