THE ROOKIE WHO DIDN’T RACE TOP FUEL LIKE A ROOKIE

 

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. And for rookie Top Fuel driver Justin Ashley, making a good first impression is traditional for the 24-year old driver of the Strutmasters.com dragster fielded by Dustin Davis Motorsports. 

Ashley, who qualified No. 1 in his Top Alcohol Dragster debut and won his first national event the next week, made his graduation into Top Fuel a memorable one scoring a semi-finial finish in his first three rounds of competition. 

RICHIE STEVENS RETURNS TO PRO STOCK

 

For the first time since early 2017, Richie Stevens Jr. will step back behind the wheel of a Pro Stock car. Stevens Jr. will compete in the TopCoat Dodge Dart that was driven by Jeremy Martorella last weekend at zMAX DRAGWAY and owned by Alan Prusienky.
 

NHRA CONTINUES CENTRIFUGAL SUPERCHARGER TESTING IN CHARLOTTE

For three races now, the NHRA tech department has been gathering data on the centrifugal supercharger as a possible fourth power adder in the Pro Modified division.

On Friday and Saturday, racers John Strickland and Lester Johnson made laps with respectable results.

LEE CALLAWAY TO MAKE HIS TOP FUEL DEBUT IN DALLAS

 

Veteran Top Fuel driver Scott Palmer confirmed to Competition Plus that former NHRA Division 4 Top Alcohol Dragster champion Lee Callaway is going to make his debut in Top Fuel in Dallas at the AAA Texas NHRA Fall Nationals Oct. 11-13 at the Texas Motorplex.

Callaway of Baytown, Texas, is going to drive the dragster Palmer has been running this season.

THE MILESTONES KEEP FLOWING FOR HIGHT WITH CHARLOTTE WIN

The milestones keep coming for Robert Hight, quicker than he can keep track of them. The day after the NTK NHRA Carolinas Nationals was scheduled to run final eliminations, Hight picked up his 51st national event victory and 500th round win in one fell swoop.

Hight knocked off No. 1 qualifier Jack Beckman to take home the rain-delayed title. This was the culmination of a day that started off tough and got tougher as it went along.

Steve Torrence has immeasurable respect for veteran Top Fuel racer Doug Kalitta.

He appreciates all that he has done for the sport and looks up to the highly decorated racer as an icon in the sport.

KRAMER THROWS HIS HAT IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP RING WITH CHARLOTTE WIN

For a man who hadn't run a full NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Pro Stock schedule, Deric Kramer appears to be making the most of a shortened schedule.

Kramer was a day later, but not a dollar short as he picked up his second Pro Stock win of the season, capturing the rain-delayed NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals Pro Stock title.

JACKSON DOUBLES UP AT CAROLINA NATS WITH PRO MOD EVENT WIN AND WORLD TITLE

Stevie “Fast” Jackson doubled up today when he claimed the world championship in the E3 Spark Plugs NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series presented by J&A Service and the event win at zMAX Dragway Monday during the NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals.

The series was presented by the Real Pro Mod Association (RPM) in at the 12th annual NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals and marked the 11th of 12 races in 2019.

TORRENCE, HIGHT, KRAMER AND HINES EMERGE VICTORIOUS AT THE NTK NHRA CAROLINA NATIONALS

Steve Torrence took over the Top Fuel points lead in the Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship when he defeated Doug Kalitta at the 12th annual NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway.

Robert Hight (Funny Car), Deric Kramer (Pro Stock) and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle) all won in their respective categories at the third of six races in the 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Countdown to the Championship playoffs. It is also the 21st of 24 events during the 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season.
