Just like the last time he was on the dragstrip at World Wide Technology Raceway, near St. Louis, Robert Hight was ruling the NHRA Funny Car action.
Unlike the last time he was here, Hight was not on fire, not hitting the wall, and not ending up at the hospital with a broken collarbone Friday night.

Jerry Savoie has only led the points once before his most recent ascension to the top. And, did he ever make the most of the opportunity.
“Last time I was ahead in the points was when we won by one point,” Savoie said with a smile.
For one day, Savoie was the king of the hill.

The American Harley Drag Racing Association [AHDRA], dormant since 2012, plans to return in 2020 with new ownership from Pulse Marketing, the Pennsylvania-based motorsports promotion company run by veteran drag racer Bill Rowe Jr. and family.
Pulse Marketing purchased the rights to the AHDRA brand from Craig Tharpe, who made the series the go-to-place to race V-twin and other Harley configurations in the early-2000s.

Ben Bray learned early in his drag racing career the importance of being versatile.
The only son of Australian doorslammer drag racing icon Victor Bray not only followed in his father’s footsteps with a Top Doorslammer championship but also added a Pro Alcohol title as well behind the wheel of a Funny Car.
Bray has also moved into the Factory Extreme division, the Australian equivalent of the American Sport Compact Pro Rear Wheel Drive.

When Ron Capps clocked a 339.28 mph lap in the second session of qualifying Sept. 13 at the Mopar Express Lane NHRA Nationals Presented By Pennzoil at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa., the NHRA tech department took notice.
NHRA reached out to its Top Fuel and Funny Car teams Sept. 19 with a letter informing them about possible rule changes. One of the mechanical changes the NHRA tech department is considering is a spec standard inlet for all superchargers. Reportedly, the spec inlet has been tested and is ready to be implemented, at any given moment.

When it comes to drag racing, Jay Turner doesn’t play. Never has. In fact, he had nitromethane in his motorcycle’s fuel tank in his first race back in 1989.
He stepped up to a full dose of the explosive fuel about 25 years ago and has won, by his count, six championships. The last of those came in 2017 when he took the NHRA crown. He’s also the owner of the championship-winning Harley ridden by Tii Tharpe the past two seasons.

The emotions got the best of Mendy Fry.
The defending NHRA Heritage Series Nostalgia Top Fuel champion, competing in the first event since the unexpected death of team owner Tom Shelar, clinched her second series championship. She also secured her fourth consecutive event title when she crossed the finish line ahead of Adam Sorokin at the Nitro Nationals in Tulsa, Ok.
