FREEMAN SAYS BROGDON DONE FOR SEASON WITH ELITE MOTORSPORTS

Back at the Mile-High Nationals July 19 in Denver, Elite Motorsports boss Richard Freeman was filling in for driver Roger Brogdon because Brogdon was skipping the three-race Western Swing in Denver, Sonoma, Calif., and Seattle because of business commitments.

Fast-forward to the U.S. Nationals this weekend, and Freeman told Competition Plus that Brogdon is no longer driving an Elite Motorsports Mustang.

In the drag racing scene, people have been talking about how Harley-Davidson motorcycles might be available for all Pro Stock Motorcycle racers soon.

As it stands now, Vance & Hines riders – Andrew Hines, Eddie Krawiec and Angelle Sampey - are the only competitors who can campaign Harleys.

ANGELLE SAMPEY ROCKETS TO NO. 1 IN PSM QUALIFYING

There’s little Angelle Sampey hasn’t done in NHRA’s Pro Stock Motorcycle class.

She has won world championships – 2000-2002 and collected 42 national event wins.

B. FORCE SETS TRACK RECORD, BUTNER, SAMPEY, BECKMAN TOP QUALIFYING

Brittany Force’s weekend at the 65th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals keeps getting better, as she broke the Top Fuel track record on Saturday at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis to stay in the provisional No. 1 spot.

Jack Beckman (Funny Car), Bo Butner (Pro Stock) and Angelle Sampey (Pro Stock Motorcycle) are also provisional No. 1 qualifiers in their respective categories at the final regular-season race of the 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season. It is the 18th of 24 events in 2019.

MATT SMITH FIRED UP ABOUT INDY, HARLEY-DAVIDSON RIVALRY

Matt Smith is a savvy Pro Stock Motorcycle racer and a star in the class.

Smith won PSM world titles in 2007, 2013 and 2018 and he also has a U.S. Nationals victory on his resume from 2013.

BECKMAN JUST HANGS ON TO PACE FUNNY CAR FIELD AT U.S. NATS

It takes a lot to get Jack Beckman excited these days.

For a man who has won world titles, set world records, and won a few big races in his day, it is the little things nowadays that truly fire up the savvy veteran.

FORCE, WITHOUT BINKY, MAKES NEW INDIANAPOLIS MEMORY IN TOP FUEL

 

Part-time racers fared well in Top Fuel qualifying for the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals in Friday’s first of five overall sessions. But in the end, Brittany Force dominated and the Capco Dragster father-son tag-team of Steve and Billy Torrence were right on her heels at Lucas Oil Raceway.   

Just like she did at Brainerd, Minn., two weekends ago in the most recent race, Force rocketed to the top of the leaderboard. She did so in a Night of Fire-style display of power, edging Steve Torrence in a 3.6-second duel.

SMITH RETURNS TO NITROUS; NO. 1 IN INDY PRO MOD QUALIFYING

 

The turbocharged experiment is over for Rickie Smith, at least until the end of the season.

“I’m just going to stay with the nitrous,” Smith revealed. [It’s] kind of what I know how to tune and do. I’m back in my nitrous car for the rest of the year.”

JESSI COMBS EMBRACED ALL LIFE HAD TO OFFER

JEGS RENEWS COMMITMENT TO NHRA

 

JEGS announced on Saturday at the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals that it has extended its NHRA sponsorships of the JEGS Allstars program and the JEGS NHRA SPORTSnationals event. The multi-year extensions will ensure the longevity of an Allstars competition which has been around since 2002 and came on as the title sponsor of the SPORTSnationals in 2005.
