TOP FUEL HARLEY RACER LAYNE CRASHES

 

Top Fuel Harley racer Beau Layne was involved in a high-speed accident at the finish of his first qualifying run Friday afternoon at the Magic Dry Organic Absorbent Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways near Seattle.

Layne, of Redding, Calif., carried the front wheel for about 1,000 feet on the quarter-mile course. When his front tire landed back on the track, the handlebars were turned awkwardly. He darted from his left lane across the track in front of fellow rider Tii Tharpe and hit the right guard wall hard, flying off his bike.

MILLICAN REPPING DENSO, B.R.A.K.E.S. IN SEATTLE

 

Clay Millican will roll into the Magic Dry NHRA. Northwest Nationals sporting two names on the side of his dragster synonymous with positive energy.

Millican’s efforts at Pacific Raceways are sponsored by Denso, a global mobility supplier who develops advanced technology and components for nearly every vehicle make and model on the road today. This weekend marks their third race in a growing partnership.

Millican also plans to have B.R.A.K.E.S., emblazoned on the side of his 330-mph rail. The charity, which promotes safe teen driving, remains a passion for the Memphis-based multi-time drag racing champion.

LAMATTINA BACK IN, BETTES OUT IN LTFR DRAGSTER

 

Two-time Australian Top Fuel Championship winning driver, Phil Lamattina will return to the cockpit of the LTFR dragster for the 2019/2020 season.
 
Lamattina, who has been acting in a Team Manager role for the last two season has said that the temptation to get back into the car has just proved too much.

TAFC RACER MARSHALL INKS DEAL WITH RAD TORQUE SYSTEMS

 

Defending NHRA Western Region Top Alcohol Funny Car Champion Chris Marshall recently announced the signing of RAD Torque Systems as a major sponsor to his and Alan Mascord’s Disturbed Racing Team.   The team will be making their national event debut with the RAD colors during this weekend’s Magic Dry Nationals at Pacific Raceways just outside of Seattle.

Marshall, who runs Marshall’s Paint & Body in McMinnville, Ore., finalized the deal with RAD Owner Dan Provost, who also competes in NHRA Top Dragster, just before the recent Sonoma, Calif., Western Regional event. 

TIMOSZYK AND SMITH CONQUER CHAOS IN THE CORNFIELD 2.0

Central Illinois Dragway in Havana, IL marked the fifth of seven stops on the 2019 Best of Texas BBQ Sauce Championship Tour presented by Red Line Shirt Club on July 26-27th. For the capacity crowd on hand, which set the single day attendance record at the facility, it was a non-stop horsepower shop featuring floppers from across the country and much more as Funny Car Chaos headlined the 50th Anniversary celebration event. Also included in the lineup was the Midwest Nostalgia Pro Stockers, Nostalgia Super Stock Inc. series, Ozark Mountain Super Shifters, CID Top Eliminator – Quick 16 & Bikes, a nitro match race between Chuck Baird’s Nostalgia Top Fuel Dragster and Jim Hidy’s AA/Fuel Altered and finally, exhibition runs by event Grand Marshal Wilmer Gale in his “True Grit” stick shift wheelstanding Camaro. Gale had been running at the track since his drag racing debut in Havana in 1969 and got a well-deserved standing ovation during the opening ceremonies.

HARTFORD ENJOYING BEST PS SEASON EVER, ADDS NEW SPONSOR FOR SEATTLE

 

A long-term relationship will continue for Pro Stock racer Matt Hartford in Seattle this weekend.

Once again, Rottler Manufacturing will be the primary sponsor on Hartford’s Camaro for the Magic Dry NHRA Northwest Nationals in Seattle, August 2-4.

“Rottler is based like 10 miles from the race track and all their employees come out and support us and they have a lot of friends and family with them, so it is just a good deal and something we have done for several years,” Hartford said. “Rottler and Total Seal Piston Rings go hand-in-hand. We have been using utilizing Rottler Honing Equipment for well over a decade at Total Seal. We’ve had a really good business relationship. Seattle also is the home track for CIP1, which is based out of Vancouver.”

DIXON STILL OFFERING RIDES IN TWO-SEATER, WORKING WITH B.R.A.K.E.S.

 

The NHRA has filed a motion to dismiss Larry Dixon’s antitrust lawsuit, leaving the case in limbo in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana for the moment.

But the respected three-time Top Fuel champion isn’t idle. He’s moving forward with his two-seat dragster experience business and finding even more fulfillment as an instructor and volunteer with his former competitor Doug Herbert’s B.R.A.K.E.S. teen driving program.

HANEY TO RUN MWPMS EVENT ON RADIAL TIRES

 

The dictionary defines "enigma" as being "mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand." When Keith Haney Racing (KHR) arrives in St. Louis Aug. 1-3, for the Summit Racing Equipment Mid-West Pro Mod Series (MWPMS) event at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, the "Enigma" they'll bring to the track may mystify and puzzle onlookers, as Haney's nitrous-huffing 2014 Camaro will continue to sport a pair of relatively tiny Mickey Thompson drag radials out back despite racing in the "big tire" Pro Mod class.
